Re: Mitsubishi recalls 500,000 cars in AU
They all inform owners with letters and such but its still up to the owners to book the car in and get the work done. I think then need to be more proactive so when a car is there for a service or work they should inform them again and not only ask if they want the work done but insist it's done for there safety.
Re: Mitsubishi recalls 500,000 cars in AU
Yeh but the service department is a franchise and not directly owned by the brand.. so recalls cost them money.
It's therefore in their interests to only look at recalls which are specifically bought to their attention.. stupid, I know, but I guarantee you that many of those cars have been through the service department, and the drive belt wasn't even a consideration (despite that almost all dealers would have wide knowledge of it and the vehicles it affects).
Heck, I bet some of them even during a service claimed the belt was due for replacement to get paid to swap it out!

Re: Mitsubishi recalls 500,000 cars in AU
I thought when a car had a recall the brand picked up the cost, I get the franchise has to front up the initial cost of what work is done but then they charge the Brand for the work done.
My Nephew (who is missing) had an issue with the CVT in his Pulsar and Nissan had the car for about 3 weeks while they did the work to swap out the CVT for a new one. Didn't cost him a cent apart from being without his car. I do think if its a prolonged job like that then they should pay up for a rental or a load car of similar size.
Ford has been promoting the fact it's customers now have to option of a load car for the day with any scheduled service.

I'm not sure if they get full compensation Craig..
Not sure of the full detail - if they were, then it's well and truly in their interests to do a recall check on each and every vehicle, simply for the extra revenue.

Correct - the dealership is compensated by the manufacturer HOWEVER the manufacturer determines the length of time the repair should take, if the repair takes longer than the manufacturer's designated time the amount of money received by the dealership will not increase. They'll pay for the allowed time only.

So if they can do it while the car is there it will probably cost them less, obviously depending what the work is and why the car is there.

There is also a recall for airbags as my other half called them in regards to getting Lancee checked for this recall. They said he just missed out and it was earlier year models. However, Lancee is an 08/09 model so im not sure which models are affected

Not heard of the airbag recall for any Lancers, mine is a MY09 and it wasn't mentioned for mine.
Re: Mitsubishi recalls 500,000 cars in AU
The CH Lancer is affected by the airbag recall

The only CH I would have got before the CJ would be the wagon, really wished Mitsubishi made a proper wagon/estate version of the CJ.

When he called they said that he just missed out and he told them the year and model of his car, so either a muck up on their behalf or no official notice has been put out (or CH and early CJ models only)

Yes got a recall notice in the mail on Thursday spoke with Mitsy at Wantirna (where I bought the car) need to arrange a day to bring it in the person was nice and helpful but need to organise a loan car for the duration. Was advised to ring back on monday to book it in.
Wow my first recall notice. was a bit scary at first but then just opened it up and read it. Even my LC hatchback never had a recall in its life.

Better to have a recall notice then something failing in the future and the company not owning up to it. Currently a lot of pissed off Ford owners with faulty auto GB they won't fix.
