This makes perfect sense to me,
I remember watching dad wiring up the spot lights on the Terano (pathfinder here) into the high beam circuit as it was a legal requirement. Now back home they've changed it ao you can have it either way, but having if hooked into the high beams would be better as it doesn't require fumbling for another switch should you encounter an on coming vehicle.
