Yeah the stock parkers are pretty lame, not that they are used much in auto mode the main head lights are either on or off.

I don't think that anybody have used those sort of LED's. I do know that people have used side emitting versions and have placed them on the underside of the lip where the fog lights are.

They look great.

I replaced the bulb in each of my fog lights with a bright LED bulb - then hardwired in a very simple relay that automatically turns them on when the car in on (they turn off automatically after 8 seconds once the engine is switched off), turn off automatically when the headlights turn on (even with the auto lights) and can be manually turned on/off with the factory VRX fog light switch.

That sounds interesting.

From a technical POV is there any difference between the brightness of fog lights like those on the Lancer and DRL?

Yes – Much brighter & the colour matches the OEM HID headlights (WIN!).
