Genuine accesory reverse sensors - who has them?

Postby Lofty » Mon Jul 20, 2015 9:16 pm

I just got the factory reverse sensors installed on my 2015 ES Sport CVT Sedan. They were ordered with the car but were on backorder.

Anyway they were fitted today and on collection I noticed there was no button to turn them off.

The MM website says:

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/veh ... ccessories

"A very useful feature when reversing. A series of audible beeps indicate how close the vehicle is to an object, assisting you to judge the distance of your Lancer to obstacles when reversing or parking. The sensors integrate perfectly into the Lancer’s rear bumper and can be disabled when towing by turning off at the warning buzzer. Note: Not compatible on sedan with rear bumper airdam. *Available Sedan or Sportback"

Which to me means there is a switch to mute it.

I was a bit suspicious that I had had some generic ones fitted because most generic ones don't have the disable switch (one of the reasons I bought the genuine set).

Anyway the dealer assures me that no I have a genuine kit and they don't come with a switch. Which annoys me, because that's why I paid $600 for the genuine vs. $300 for aftermarket. Product delivered doesn't match the advert.

Anyone else with genuine accessory sensors - do you have a switch?

The dealer told me the factory towbar kit comes with the switch. However the description on the genuine accessory doesn't say this, and I'm a bit annoyed because I'm not buying the genuine towbar kit as its $900 fitted and I can get it for $450 fitted aftermarket.

Yeah sounds weird there is no switch.

I've see tow bars on eBay for around $350, 3 times as much from the dealer sounds about right

How much is the revers camera option? I would think that would be much more useful.

My other cars (2010 Pajero diesel, 2015 Liberty 3.6R) have both sensors and camera.

Faced with having only one, I'd pick sensors. Reason being is that you are looking at the mirrors / over the shoulder and using the beeps as a confirmation tool. Cameras tend to encourage just looking at the camera, meaning you lose sightlines up the sides of the vehicle.

I had a loan car a while ago which had surround cameras. That was interesting when parking.

Okay I can see that, had one guy back into us a while back (no my CJ, Pathfinder with bullbar) he blamed the camera being dirty, didn't cause any damage.

That all said when I have the money I'll be getting a HU with camera hook up and sensors... and a switch on the dash LOL

I'd say check with another dealer.

The button to turn off the sensors is one of these 3 above the cup holder. I have it and I can't even remember which button it is as I never turn them off anyway.

That pic is for sst models only. On all other cars it's on the right next to the boy ricer switch (traction control :-) ). I bought a genuine kit off ebay for $150 and it doesn't come with a switch so got one off ebay for $20. I haven't installed them yet so don't know how the wiring is going to work out.

Yeah my Pajero has the 'sonar' switch up near the steering wheel.

ashleymorris - was your factory fitted or dealer fitted?

Barek - so your genuine kit didn't have the switch? Or it was missing?

2010 Activ Model reporting in.

mine came as part of the new vehicle.
but there is no switch in the cabin.

I always imagined there would be an option for it on the circuit board but never needed to do this.

Also mine were painted in the same color as the rest of my vehicle.

otherwise you will get black\grey\white reversing sensor dots.
depending on what model and revision they use.

Thanks. So the dealer is telling the truth - its the MM website that is wrong.

Tnanks, that confirms the above too.

So I'll take it up with MM as to why they state something on the webpage but its not correct.

Well no thanks to the useless dealer, I have found that the MM website is actually correct and there is an off switch for the sensors. MM customer care clarified it for me ...

They install a small speaker in the boot space (its up in the top corner, hard to see unless you know) as part of the kit. The small speaker has off-lo-hi settings (for volume). This is all in the instructions for the installation of the sensors, which the dealer didn't give to me.

yeah i got instructions for it. but i ended up throwing it away.
it depends on how attentive your salesman\dealer is.
