WTB - Foam Spray Gun/Multimeter

Postby Lancer1993 » Fri Aug 26, 2016 7:52 am

Not sure if this is the right place for this type of buy, just after info on the best place to look. Or if anyone has seen them on sale and stuff.

1st a Foam Spray Gun for use on a normal garden hose to better wash my car, not sure who has the best ones for a low budget.

2nd is a Multimeter, my old one died a few weeks ago and was looking at spending about $50 on a better one, seen some good ones at JayCar like this which fits the bill.

Need to know if there is anything better out there for the same money?

This is the multimeter I have, it's not auto ranging, but for $20 from bunnings, it's well made and I haven't had any issues with it (unlike the $40 one I had from SCA, the plug wires split open because they were so crappily made).

Thanks, do you know if you can use any car wash liquid with it?

Go to chemguys website. The honeydew snow foam is awesome. A snow foam gun that works with a high pressure
Cleaner works best. Also jaycar have good multimeters for the price. I'm an electrician and used a jaycar multimeter for years. The leads are sometimes dodgy.

Do you know much about fixing multimeters and if they are worth fixing?

Basically mine is no longer detecting any voltage when connected to a known good battery that should be reading something. I've done the usual like checked the battery. Checked the leads, even took it apart to see if anything was obviously wrong. I guess a transistor or something else died inside. The LED display still works but its just now picking up any voltage.

I like that $50 one, comes with a pouch and even does temp readings.

If the leads look okay, does the current sensor work? Remember to switch to the 10A fuse if you're doing anything in your car with current. Best to do all current on the 10A fuse actually. Ammeters go in series with the circuit, not in parallel, so you will need to find somewhere you can break the circuit and use the multimeter to connect it again.

Alternatively, if it has a continuity mode on it (diode mode), try that. Any two connected points should give a non-1 reading. Any non connected points should read 1 (depending on the multimeter, this is how all the ones I have seen have worked).

It might be the fuse but I'm not 100% sure, that said it's only worth $10 now going by the prices at JayCar what have what looks like the same model under a different name. Exactly like this one... http://www.jaycar.com.au/low-cost-digit ... m/p/QM1500

So the fuse might be blown, looks like it. So I used some wire to replace it and I still couldn't get a reading on a battery I know has some power left in it.

And no one of the probes have broken off the lead again. I had fixed it a while back (solder) and it had been working fine. Maybe it's a sign I need a new one, so I'll look at JayCar next week.

That picture shows it has Continuity detection, its the one just to the right of 200 Ohms resistance measurement. Looks like a diode. Do you get readings with that? I actually have the same one, it's my old one, I guess SCA were upselling them a lot 5 years ago :P

Here's mine. And here's what happened to the lead after minimal use. Interesting that mine is BestBuy, but the JayCar one says Digitech, much be a really shitty multimeter that the manufacturer sells to a bunch of different brands.

Clearly the same design had been sold over the years by different brands stamping there name on it.

I can't even remember where or when, might have been DickSmith or SCA about 10 years ago... yes you read that right. For something worth $10 today it's done a good job IMO.

My lead broke (again) at the other end and yes the fuse is blown. The LED is working but it's just not taking a reading anymore, that might be the fuse, not sure? I had noticed for a while it was acting weird even when it was working, depending where the dial was pointed.

Now for the Foam Spray Gun, are the $25 ones on eBay worth it?

So got this Multimeter at The IT Shop for $10 less than the JayCar price.
Comes with a bag to keep it tidy when not in use.

Now still looking for a foam spray gun for my garden hose...
