Well thats good to know... I did contact an exhaust shop recently in my area. Looking at $400 to get 2.5 inch with high flow cat and the O2's fitted etc plus labour. The guy on the phone didn't specifically say labour but I think he implied it in the quick write up he did. Which that aint bad. I'll pretty much have a header-back from then. Should be louder after this too, but tbh I have no idea, I haven't driven it enough as it is yet and I know the CAT is holding it back just not sure how much in regards to noise etc. So it will interesting!

hahaha nothing bumble. My father and I aren't overly scientific, we filed the ends back to fit nice and slim, used exhaust sealant on all points the exhaust connected then used U shaped clamps that were provided at an average of 40 NM of torque as per the spec sheet. Started it up left it running for a while and smelt really nothing even in an enclosed shed. Ran it down to town a few times and she was sweet. Even the exhaust sealant was overkill at that point but we did it anyways.

Not a lot we do that's by the book, we make a lot of shit work because of perseverance :D

On another note, where are all the other build threads lately?? What are people doing to their cars atm? Need some friendly competition!

Use a smoke machine to test the exhaust otherwise you're just taking a guess if the exhaust is sealed fully or not

Look probably not going to do that. Probably just spray the joints and see if it bubbles. Which it may slightly as it's not welded its essentially clamped at high pressure. But actually it probably won't, we used a fair bit of exhaust sealant on all joints and that stuff is suppose to fix that by nature.

QUICK UPDATE:
Trying to keep you guys entertained and keep myself enthusiastic on the project :D

SUPERPRO BUSHINGS
So these are sorta the most annoying thing to buy, especially if you're replacing most on the car as the naming convention can actually get quite convoluted. I am getting about 6 packets of these poly bushings for around $300 for my car in the next week. I already have 2 packets so far (see below), they are the trailing arms (really big suckers) and some upper outer bushes, as my brother had them in stock at his store. The rest are coming from the warehouse. There was potential to buy the normal OEM rubbers, although 2 things sorta stopped me: 1. Getting all the pre fitted arms with rubber bushes was the same price as Polys and they weren't even original they are remakes obvs. 2. I didn't really want the car to be fitted with a random amount of poly/rubber bushes, or potentially having rubber ones wearing out way before the poly ones.

I wasn't overly worried about a rough ride, as I can still dampen lots of the suspension/raise car if I absolutely have to. So all in all these will go in next weekend hopefully (Dad brought a Wildtrak and has suddenly gone around Victoria with mum in it, so ill have to wait till next weekend), utilising the bushing press machine we have I am curious how quickly we can get it done. After this an alignment and check my bloody ABS/sensors etc. to fix the service light I have atm.

Image

DOOR+SPOILER
Get this done in Melb by my work friend, as it's run over time!! Spoiler sprayed and then fitted probably by myself shortly after.

EXHAUST EXTENSION
After I've got the car running down in Melb, I'll get the exhaust guy to take a look and pretty much make up a 1m 2.5in pipe with fittings and a high flow cat (200 cell will be good) and have a proper completely modified exhaust all the way to the head.

Now I'll want to get a tune pretty quickly as my car will be throwing CAT codes after it though, so next would be

TUNE
Haven't heard back from merlin in a while, I suppose I'll get the exhaust shit booked in then contact him before hand with a more definitive timeframe.

FUTURE THINGS:
Anything in the future after the main items above are done would be either a mixture of a headunit upgrade, bodykit attachments, new rims, VLAND headlights, swaybar kit in probably any order.

Next update probably after the bushings are done,

If you put on a cat back exhaust you won't get CEL codes
Mind you
Cat back is a waste of time and $ anyhow and most definitely not worth it

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/352830061370
Drop one of these on the rear O2 sensor and that will take care of any CEL

With your vast tuning ideas why not turn the rear o2 sensor off or raise the rear o2 sensor threshold values in the ecu to stop the errors? That was the first thing that was fixed when I got my car tuned. But I got my car tuned two days after fitting the high flow cat. CEL didn't come on till I was driving to the tuner. Those "mini cats" are a bandaid solution. After talking to a few tuners they said they are useless when you tune your car properly.

Unless it's not in the lower-spec Lancer Ecu or no one has managed to add it to the Xml.

I looked into the mini cat, but I'll probably just see what Merlin can accomplish with the stock O2's. Adam also has a good point, they are just a sensor that can be manipulated like the ecu. I'm new to tuning so I don't know the best way to go about it anyhow, but I know this exhaust has gotta be finished up and I have to get tuned shortly after. See what happens...

Get the rest of the bushings this tomorrow, buttttttt it might be looking like Easter time when I replace them all. I hate how long this has dragged out ahah, gonna lose my mind If I can't take it for a proper drive soon

They usually just turn off the rear o2. It only reads values to see if it is functioning correctly in a stock form. Once you place a high flow item there the o2 sensor sees different values. By turning the rear o2 off doesn't affect the car if tuned at the same time.

Quick Update!

All the bushings are in my possession and I'll be fitting them over Easter weekend. Then finish up with a wheel alignment early next week to drive it home!

Very excited. Should be good.

@awood - Yeah I know, there's nothing but the sway bars/end links/swaybar bushes left for the entire cars suspension. Everything else has been virtually updated. Even the steering rack lol.

Yes I think its going to be a bigger job then I expect it to be, but either way dad wants it out of his garage and I wanna take it home hahah. Yeah compared to how floaty it is now, I am keen to break these in :D

Yeah I've got a fair few family members that have used their bushes and had no issues only good results. How many bushes roughly was on the XR8? What was your ball park time?

The job was done over a few days when we had spare time.I'd say probably about 12 hours all up.About 25+ bushes. They are a way bigger job than a Lancer you have to remove the whole rear suspension cradle and diff.
