Folding Electric Mirrors

Postby Lancer1993 » Sat Apr 15, 2017 4:57 pm

So just asking about adding the right wiring to my MY09 VRX to make auto folding mirrors with indicators work, or could it already have them but why just aren't being used.

I'm sure it can be done either way but how hard is it to add?
Can I assume the hardest part is wiring them up to auto fold when you lock the car?

Has anyone done this using the stock MY15 mirrors?

They come stock standard on My15s.

That's why I asked.

I know there were some after market ones out a few years ago but they aren't in business anymore.

But with the MY15 CJ and the CF Mitsy has them so how hard is it to wire them up or is the basic wiring in place? Now I have added power mirrors to my old Lancer and the hardest part then was running the wires through the door to the car, also did power windows at the same time.

This is not including the actual cost of getting them, which is not cheap from what I've seen.

According to Etacs forum some early Lancers dont have the relays in the ETACS module which allows them to fold. It is a massive job to get them working if these relays are missing. You also need different switch for the mirrors. I wanted to do this on the wifes my09 vrx. Ill try and find the link to show you.

I went out and took some photos to show you differences lucky I have an My11 Evo x and My09 VRX to compare too..

What I found from website mentions these two wires as control wires for the mirrors.

Maybe its one of those mods that is nice to think about but better off leaving and save the money for a newer CJ.

So the 2017 CF mirrors can be wired up to auto fold when you lock the car? Or do you have to put all new wires through? Or wires and motors to turn the mirrors in?

I had the X-Factor folding mirrors on my 2009 VRX Sprortback the mirrors died and I couldn't get more as has been said he went out of business, I sourced some 2015 lancer folding mirrors from china, they were even the right colour and wired them to the X-Factor control box, they work perfectly I even have the fold switch on the mirror switch, only problem I had were they were LHD mirrors, but with a minor mod they are now RHD mirrors.

I still find it amazing in 2018 that Mitsubishi doesn't make auto folding mirrors standard in the CF, don't the cheap Lancer still have a red centre info section, not full color?

Whats the diff between the LHD and RHD mirrors?

With other things this is one mod I've not found the need or money for, but it would still be a nice mod. Added electric windows to my Coupe, was one of the best mods I made to the car and in the end was pretty easy, hardest bit was running the wires through the door. Managed to do it with proper door cards and switches from a M21. Just needed an auto electrician to do the final wiring up.

The angle they sit from the door. On rhd the drivers side is more around 90 degrees and the passengers mirror is around 45 degrees. Lhd they are the opposite.

Never really noticed but you're talking about the mirror, not the housing right? I thought with electric they are be universal and you'd adjust them to suit?

In the earlier mirrors the angle is set off the mount on the door, if you look at the passenger door you will see it is swept further back, and you cannot use LHD on a RHD car, the angle is too great, however on the later mirrors the angle is set by a ring in the mirror base, so both LHD and RHD mirrors are the same, but the ring inside are different and sets the mirror angle, I was hoping to just swap the rings from left to right, but of course they wouldn't make it that easy, in the end I redrilled the holes and set the LHD mirrors to the RHD angle, problem solved
