Cruise ctrl not working, stucked at P..what happen?!

Postby skygunner » Tue Feb 21, 2017 12:18 am

Hi guys, two days ago, I noticed my CJ Lancer ES 07's cruise control suddenly stopped working, then today the "service required ASC OFF" light came on as per image during driving (possibly from braking)
Image

P/S the cruise light will come on when I press the button, but I can't set the speed nor increase speed

But there's more, today after work, I tried to drive my car, my shift was stucked at "park"! I had to pry open the hole to release the shift to drive! What's going on here?! Why suddenly so many issues happen at one time? I presume they're all related?

Hope this is not an expensive exercise :(

Check if your brake lights are working. If the brake switch is stuffed it won't release the park lock or engage cruise control.

You're right, my brake light is not working. Can I DIY that quickly?

Update: I checked the brake lamp fuse, and it look normal?

So I guess it's the brake light switch? But where can I find the brake light switch ?

Have you got any mods like led lights? Those aftermarket tail lights cause these issues without resistors fitted

It's pretty much confirmed it's brake light switch malfunctioned after talking to a few mechanics, but they all wanna charge me $90-100 to get it replaced..geez!

Is it pretty easy to do? since they say will only take them 20 mins. Could someone please guide me how to fix it myself?

Ok, I managed to remove the brake light switch myself. Does this look broken? Guess I'll find out when I pick up a new one tomorrow.

it wont be visually broken, the contacts inside have just worn to the point that they no longer touch properly or a build up of dust is stopping contact.

if you think you can open it without losing anything and being able to put it back together you could clean it out and see if it works after that. or soak it in metho/brake cleaner/ electrical contact cleaner and shake it around and air blow it may fix it too.

or just buy a new one from mitsubishi/wreckers.
