JMFSNCZ4A9U000201 ~ JMFSNCZ4AFU000214

Observe that the characters wrap around? So is it read that all vehicles from JMFSNCZ4A9U000201 to JMFSNCZ4A9U999999 and then JMFSNCZ4AAU000001 and so on?
Or is that trying to say only 14 vehicles made are affected - 201 to 214 (inclusive)?

Pretty sure it wraps around, but it's not 700k vehicles as the VIN range would seem, as I believe it only goes up to eg. JMFSNCZA9U000999 rather than U999999. So 7k vehicles just for that VIN range entry.

Same with me, I bought it secondhand. Better check the recall page then

More recalls, this time from Honda and Merc!

Anyone else get the feeling it's only a matter of time before Lancers are recalled because of this airbag issue that's plagued cars across the world?

It all depends on the brand of airbag used. Common parts are a very good thing as it reduces costs, until there are design or manufacture failure.

I doubt the CJ Lancers would be affected by the issue even if they did use Takata, most of the recalls are on older models of other cars.
I might add a pic of my car once I style the exterior a bit :).

I'm pretty sure they go off rego, as with the last recall for the fan belt or something I got a letter from mitshi regarding the recall and I brought mine from someone. I'm the third owner of the car.

If you are the second owner of the car you can call up Mitsi and change the owner details. I did it and they will send you the details of any recalls by mail.

I'll have to check that, I know the dealer I'm seeing tomorrow has my details and the Mitsy dealer I bought the car from has them but don't know if they passed that info onto the Mitsy HQ or not.

I'm waiting for a letter but I might just ring my dealer to see if my vin number has a recall.
We should all push to have the abss unit recalled

Yeah it could take weeks for those letters, you can check the VINs earlier in the thread or just call them. Better off getting it done ASAP if you can arrange to be without the car for a day, lucky I'll be around the corner from my dealer tomorrow so easy walking distance.

As for the ABS, really hope its not an issue but we have had a few people here with an expensive issue to fix them. I do wonder just how many have failed and where they draw the line. Also if you've got it fixed/replaced and then they do a recall I think you might be entitled to a refund or other compensation under ACCC rules.

In regards to the ABS, if they replaced it with the same faulty part, you need to get a replacement anyway.

Did they give you an estimation on the length of the repair?

So the checks took just a few hours, others may vary but on mine they checked the corrosion issues with the connections inside the steering column all okay they applied some sealant to prevent future issues. With the ETACS they first check the serial number, mine was not on the list so no further action. Not sure if that's a part that would be replace if it's found to be faulty, this might require a 2nd visit once they have the part in stock.

So no pain, a few hours without the car and a good service center will likely take you to work if needed.

# One note is this work requires them disconnecting the battery so take a note of your trip meters if you're using them to keep records. Won't matter for me as tomorrow if all goes to plan I should have a color cluster installed with correct odometer reading.

I see, thanks for the insight. My guess is they'll build up stock to keep on hand with the recall number being so high - as its early days though you'd be pretty spot on saying a 2nd trip would be required if the serial falls into the range. Im guessing you went to CCA mitsy?

Yeah the Caloundra dealer is right around the corner, wish it was the dealer I got the car through as it's covered by a strict warranty when it comes to servicing and repairs or the 6 years used warranty will be voided.

I don't know why the the don't have the serial number for the ETACS on file against the VIN. If they have to remove it or they can just plug the car into their computer and looking it up?

Called the dealer's service department first thing this morning, and got an appointment for 8:30am this Thursday.

They said the work in my case (early MY10 Sportback) would involve changing out the ECU and turn signal stalk, and all up would take about 4 hours.
