New key - sometimes won't start

Postby tusk » Tue Mar 10, 2015 9:59 am

Hi Guys,
I purchased a second key for my Lancer a few weeks back as we never received a second key when we bought the car. It has been cut and programmed and has been working fine up until now.
I went to start it the other day (with the new key) and the starter motor kicks in and then cuts out literally half a second later and nothing else happens (all electrics remain on). I tried 2 more times and it started on the 3rd go.
The car battery is less than a year old. It starts fine with the existing (original) key.
My wife told me this morning it did the same thing again and that it then made a 'ding ding' sound and that the display said 'good bye'.
I couldn't find any similar posts. I'm certain this is an issue with the key. I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience before I take the 45 min drive to the place of purchase.
Cheers
