Hey guys, this has been put on the back-burner for a while now but I have just sent out a number of emails to signwriters in Perth looking for a decent install price. (Yes I know I could DIY it but I have neither the time, patience nor will to DIY :P)

The first reply I got was $100+GST for the install. Still too much IMO.

The second reply I got was for $350....Although he thought he would have to cut the vinyl for me, despite me writing that "I have pre-cut vinyl pieces"...

I explained this to him and he came down to $80 which is looking quite reasonable.

Now we play the waiting game for the rest to get back to me and I'll go with the cheapest one.

Also could a mod please move this to the vinyl section (massive fail on my part not realising there was a vinyl section to begin with) and then delete this instruction. Cheers.

haha you fail Rahul!

But thanks for trying :P

Ah ok, I knew you were better than that! :D

I should be able to delete it myself now that it is in the right section.

Oh My Effing god.
This really pisses me off.

Rear spoiler accent trims take 10 minutes to install properly on a clean car.

Front blackouts take 1/2-1 hour on a clean car.
This includes removing all of the upper grill assy, snorkel and cover plate.
And putting it all back together again.

Can you imagine how many blackouts i would have done at those prices quoted?????????????????

I know...................NONE.

It's not just CCJ.

I would never charge someone $350 to do this.

From what I can make of this issue

-Itachi is getting a quote sight un seen at about $100 per hour

-Materials quoted for the job are over inflated. I bet they would use lesser grade product.

-Some companies charge high prices on work they don't need to fill their monthly budget. If they get that highly priced job then it's a bonus to them. If not then it's no big deal to them.

Plus, they probably don't know how to pull the Lancer apart to wrap the vinyl on the bumper. That is even if they do. Probably just cut the 10mm overlap off at the top!!!

The quoted price was for the side skirt accent vinyl and the rear spoiler vinyl. Not sure if the side ones would be harder/easier than the front. Well unless you plan on making a trip to Perth anytime soon Luke, this is what I have to work with :P TBH Perth seems to be lacking in honest, hard working people. I know I could do it myself, but I just want it done right, and at the moment $80 isn't too bad to ensure that it looks good and not crooked or bubbly etc.

OMG I'm getting so F*%$ing annoyed by these people. What part of I HAVE PRE CUT-PIECES THAT I NEED INSTALLED sounds like "Please cut our vinyl and charge me that when I already have it" *frusty*

Please tell me if I am wrong and that somehow doesn't mean what I want it to.

Reason for ^^ rant is because just as I was typing this reply I got another response quoting $200 - but its ok because they will make them for me in either matte or gloss black... *mad2*

Sorry, dunno where my idea of you getting the blackout poped up.

This is sounding even worse for you.

No $H!@
To do the side accent decals it would take minutes to do.

line up the decal and hold it in place with masking tape.

Very lightly cut through one peice of masking tape leaving half on the vinyl and the other half on the car.

Peel back half of the backing film and cut off and discard.

Give both the car and the back of the vinyl a light spray with very mild soapy water.

Lay the vinyl down on the car and rejoin the peice of masking tape that you cut in half. Apply the vinyl with 2 x licence/bank cards taped together and wrapped in a small rag.

Do the same process for the other half of the side trim.

For the rear spoiler accents.

Spray soapy water onto the rear window of your car.

Place the decal face down on the window/soapy water.

Remove the backing sheet while lightly spraying the adhesive side of the vinyl.

spray the CLEAN spoiler with soapy water.

Basically float or slide the decal into position and apply.

Toooooo EEassssyyyyy!!!!!

Plus, after you have done it you can sit back, have a beer and throw stones at those peanuts that wanted to overquote you!!!

well, it's only minimal soapy water, it's not dishwashing strength water.

I can imagine (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the soap also breaks down the glue slightly so you can actually move it around while it's wet, but once the water dries up, then the glue returns to its "original" state and the adhesive qualities with it.

also, Luke is a professional signwriter and those of us who have seen him work have no doubts about his ability, some so much so will even allow him to work with a stanley knife against the body of the cars (and that's saying something)
