Rotor swap/upgrade?

Heya,

I have plans, in future, to upgrade the OEM front rotors to slotted/vented.

question: can i then move the OEM front rotors to the rear, replacing stock solid rotors? that'd give me slotted/vented fronts, and vented rears. yummy!

is this possible without massive mod to the brake system?, fyi i'm running oem 16" alloys in an RX.

thoughts?

No you cannot,

They are completely different.

Also to change thicknesses etc you would need to change to different calipers.

oh, i assumed i would take the whole assembly with it to the rears, pads, calipers etc. replace it all.
and on front new rotors, calipers/pads to suit new rotor as well...brackets if needed, but hopefully not

does that change things, or just a different colour of shyte?

Doesn't change a thing!!

The rears do very little when stopping. Unless you changed the brake bias etc there would be little point.

If you want to change the rears you could try find some VRX rears... They are slightly bigger but still solid.

Yeah as Shane said, kinda pointless.

A cheap upgrade would be either VRX or RA brakes all round :)

I've gone from VRX to RA brakes myself hehe and Shane has changed his fronts to VRX spec

Asking the obvious question; how much do you want to spend?

You can pay about $1600, each, and get a front and rear K-Sport oversize vented and slotted 13" brake rotor and 6-pot caliper..

Overkill? Yes, but hey, its still an option... Have a spare $3200?!

haha, yes lotto permitting that would be a nice option.

the only prob with the vrx/ra upgrade to the fronts would mean i need 18" wheels to accomodate them, adding to expense

looks like this ones goin into my wishlist basket...

The VRX can fit under 17" wheels, and chances are the RA can too, there is not much difference clearance wise compared to the VRX.

top up to an old thread, i found these:

http://www.dba.com.au/products/dba834sl

anyone with tech-savy-ness in brakes with thoughts on whether these can be fitted around the handbrake drum? I saw the evo's can fit series 7000 rotors on rears.....i wonder if these are the same deal
for 23$, worth a look for fun!! :)

There really is little point in putting slotted rotors on the rear.

They will most likely not fit as I don't believe DBA list parts for the current model Lancer, unless you have an RA or EVO.

The different grades in disc don't make the disc any bigger, they are different construction and have different methods for cooling etc.

Put a nice set of discs and pads in the front. If you can get your hands on some 2 pot RA calipers great, otherwise your only option is to go Ksport etc etc.

2 pot Ralliart calipers FTW

Hmmm, 2 pots would make all the difference...yummy....
question-is it true that you need to upgrade the master cylinder to accommodate the additional fluid flow/pressure?
