I have not had a look at my Lancer as I have done enough Km's to rotate the tyres, but painting the disc's with a high temperature black paint stops them rusting. If you go to the effort to paint your calipers red, you may as well paint the disc's black to finish the job! Any paint on the disc faces will be removed on the first breaking.

....and i take my tyres off for fun (generally) to adjust my Rally Armor mudflaps as the screws are inaccessable generally. :P

you know you can remove the caliper and not have to bleed the brake fluid.( i presume you are talking about pushing the piston back so the caliper fits)

you just need to open the brake fluid cap and push on the piston. best way is to get a long nut and a threaded steel plate as big as a brake pad. then using that and another brake pad push the piston back with a spanner on the nut.

all with the brake fluid cap open. after thats done put it all back together tighten up then put cap back on.

that way you don't have to waist your brake fluid

Tryg you are right about a lot of effort.
Painting the discs on the edge will not stop surface rust on the faces, but for asthetics does give the disc's and calipers a good look.
On my last car when I fitted my new wheels, the brakes were very visable. I removed the disc and calipers, sand blasted them before painting them with a high temperature paint that had to baked in the oven.
The calipers where then overhauled with new pistons and seals. This process took a little longer, but 5 years later a quick hose with water, gave the breaks a brand new look again!
I believe if you do a jog, do it once and do it properly!

I was talking about the brake hose! You can remove the caliper from the brakes but you are limited by the hose.
There should be no need to push the pistons in unless the pads are replaced at the same time. I would not take the cap off when pushing the pistons back as the brake fluid could go every where. I suck 90% of brake fluid out of reservoir before pushing pistons back.
The calipers should slide away from the disc's once the top and bottom bolts are removed. This should give enough movement to paint in the tyre well.
Then the disc should be able to come off the hubs. i would then paint the disc's away from the car!

always remove fluid with a mechanic's syringe prior to moving the pistons.. its the done way.

for the rust saga, its just another reason to love bikes... stainless discs

if you can spare the time to paint them, go for it... surely will look pretty!

Dont bother ringing the NSW Distributor other than Technical Advice, and they're closed for the holidays anyway.

HOLTS DUPLI-COLOR PRODUCTS (USA) are a tad more expensive than your average products because they contain high tech chemicals (Ceramic Resins) in their composition,and hence you wont find them on every Auto Shop shelf.
However most Repco - Autobarn - Supercheap - Bursons etc can order it in for you.

Using ordinary Brake Spray Paint into a can and then brush painting it on the caliper is not a proper method, it's way to thin out of a spray can and hence to many coats are needed to give proper coverage that will last with some longevity.

Im painting my calipers right now, Ill have a full how to paint your calipers with a guide AND a video so it should be up by around 6-7pm...

Ive only done 1 caliper and it took me like 30 minutes to clean it rofl.

Cleaning off all the brake dust is a pain!
I got lazy and left most of it on, I'll repaint it later if need be :P

Things are not that hard to do, thanks to all the help from generous people from this club?
What paint did you use?
