If you need to ask how to replace the brake pads and rotors you shouldn't be anywhere near them in the first place.
You get the brake pads / rotor replacement wrong and you will have no brakes.
Your safety and other road users safety should be your priority.

Doing some simple visual checks yourself on brake pads for your own piece of mind should be done occasionally as well.

For the price of machining the rotor you can go very close to buying a new set.
I have supplied you with a web site to get rotor and pad from in the past few weeks.

I have a day off tomorrow. You.live a few hours away in Coloundra. If my day wasn't so full on I would happily throw some tools in my car and come for a drive and spend some time with you and teach you a thing or two

I asked for advice, so I didn't miss anything and I told you I've replaced the callipers on my old coupe and no one died. But the CJ is a different beast with ABS so you don't want to screw things up.

You're acting light the sites police, yes we want advice but not endless criticising when we say or do something wrong.

I only asked how often do YOU replace YOUR brake parts. And yes I know depending on parts its almost cheaper to just replace the rotors and yes I know some slotted ones can't be machined, some can. Asked a mechanic at a brake parts supply shop.

No I don't check my own brake pads, that's what I pay for dealer servicing and extended used car warranty to monitor them every year.

Also I'm busy today and don't need you come come over.

I thank you for your advice but please don't criticise others when we are just trying to work out how to proceed with jobs like this.

It would be nice in the future if we could do workshops where we could gather on a Saturday or something and with the help of a trained mechanic do work like this which I know with the right tools and parts only takes a few hours.

Go spend some time in a local hospital and see the results of when people tackle a job they have zero clue about.

Checking the basics on your car isn't that tough.

I replaced my brake parts when either it needs it cos it's stuffed or if I'm upgrading aka installed RA rotor/ calipers on the Front.

Once you spend time in a hospital and see the results of car accidents I hope you may rethink your position.

You carry on with the same hyperbole bumblebee, lancer hasn't said he is clueless, he has carried out jobs like this before, I'm sure he has accessed and read the workshop manual available on this site, he is merely asking what you consider is time change, to which you really hadn't provided a straight answer, do you walk around your car before every drive and ensure the lights indicators and hazards are working, fluids are topped up, all tyres are at pressure, tread wear is okay, and the other numerous checks one should do before even starting the car. Or trust its all as it was last time you looked... When you upgraded to the RA calipers, did you confirm that the master cylinder was capable of handling the two pot calipers? Have you informed your insurance company of all the modifications you have done to your car? Maybe you should go and visit a hospital to see the result of not checking your car before a drive, or the result of modifications that may or may not have been the cause of an accident...

I visit it regularly as well

As for my insurance company
Yes they are informed of my modifications

Also if you bother to read the PDS with most insurance companies they don't care what you do so long as it is legal.
Call them sometime and have a chat

What sorts of modifications are usually allowed by law?

Permissible vehicle modifications include, but are not limited to, the following:

Alarm systems
Roof racks
Stereo systems
Additional lighting
Body markings
Single tone air horns
Air conditioning
Stabiliser bars
Air shock absorbers
Badge bars


What sorts of modifications are usually illegal?

In general, the following are no-go zones:

Loud exhaust systems
Dark window tinting
Non-compliant modifications to the engine, chassis, tyres or suspension


Note the last bit there. Are your modifications NCOP and ADR compliant?

Lots of good info in there possibly a bit much reading though, would you say you've achieved gains engine performance wise of 20% or greater? Varying bits about brake upgrades in there, and required certification, also humourous in typical QLD fashion adding an extra requirement to NCOP of emmissions testing, and then saying there currently isn't anywhere in QLD certified to emmission test so emmission test requirment is waived....

Okay I pulled the trigger, ordered the parts from Brakes Direct and I should see them in 7 working days due to low stocks of some parts, I also decided on the Brembo brake pads which were a little cheaper but do shed more dust, not an issue since I clean the wheels pretty regularly.
