Are the brakes on the VRX the same as the RA?

Postby Lancer1993 » Fri Jul 13, 2018 12:53 pm

Right short story I hope to own a RA one day but have a VRX right now.

Will brake parts bought for a VRX fit a RA, does it depend on the model years?
Not that I'd fit them to my VRX then swap them to a RA, kinda pointless IMHO.

Something like this...

I know it says RA but it also says 07-09.

FYI mine is a MY09 VRX, I'm hoping to get a late model RA, maybe 2012 depending on price but no immediate plans.

Might be putting the cart before the horse on this one?
Just weighing my options if some good parts come up beforehand.

Differing reports out there, and I think I have read elsewhere the rotors are a slightly different height, the callipers are two pot on the RA, the rear brakes however are the same. front pads are different, VR-X DB1441, the RA DB1223, more here
a lot of those online epcs get it wrong, or almost there but not quite. DBA417 rotors are for 2007 - 03/2009 VR-X and RA according to DBA website, but again the height is supposedly different. I can get you Part#s if you like.

I did find a whole heap in the RA/NA performance threads about brake upgrades and carrier sizes etc.

Did it anyway , no difference in height, only thickness.

Yeah so better off just getting stuff for the car I have and using them when it comes to the brakes and mechanical parts.

Thanks.

I don't think 1mm either side in thickness will make a lot of difference. I'm pretty sure that my car is specced for the 24mm thickness but has the 26mm on it. But pads and the likes you are better off to get them as you require them.

See if I put them on the VRX I'd 100% get them off before selling it...

BTW do they come in yellow :)

I guess a serious question is a lot of these slotted and drilled brakes look good but if they use the same calipers and you're only changing the disc and pads will they stop any better? I know the one thing they claim to do is reduce brake fade when on steep hills but that aside in normal driving will you notice anything or are you buying them more for the looks.

Unless you spend big and step up to some genuine Brembo calipers, pad and disc.
What sort of ball park do you need to be in to do this?

No they are different. Front and rear rotors are different and so are front calipers and pads.
