ABS Replace

Postby jakemc8 » Mon Feb 01, 2016 6:29 pm

Just got my car back from Mitsubishi for a recall so i asked them to take a look at my ABS and Traction control warnings. Bad news it turns out to be the module itself that needs replacing which would run me close the $3000 now being only 19 I don't really have that sort of cash to throw around.
I have been looking for a spare on off of gumtree or ebay and found a wreckers about an hours drive away that has a few going for just $300.
Now my question is that if I try save myself some $$ and get the second hand module what are some things I could look out for to make sure its not going to be another dodgy module again seeing has alot of people seem to get this problem with this car. I read somewhere that the problem usually occurs past 40,000km's which mine did around 51.000.
Any advice would be awesome.
Cheers :D

That is a ridiculous price to replace the ABS module.

Contact Mitsubishi Australia by email and phone and explain you want it replaced for free as these are known to be a common problem and no way should it only last 50,000km.

If that doesn't work contact your local consumer affairs as we have laws in this country where manufacturers need to guarantee an item for a reasonable time.

Tried everything, Email'd, Called several dealerships even Facebook messaged which resulted in a service representative giving me a call and they told me because it is out of the warranty and I am the second owner that they don't have to do anything about it.
I've just given up trying to fight it. All they care about is how much money they can milk out of people.

Have you tried consumer affairs?

Its amazing what a company will do for you when authorities become involved

You need to be more persistent. Do you have a parent or family member with more experience these sort of matters who can help?

I would seek legal advice.

Consumer affairs is a good start.

Otherwise best of luck finding a cheap ABS module.

I found one on ebay, Probably a stupid question but my current abs module has the code 4670A352 and the new one is 4670A717 this isn't a problem is it?
