Extremely squealy brakes after a wash

Postby milobob » Sun Jan 15, 2012 6:40 pm

I've been forgetting to ask about this.

Before I changed my wheels, whenever I washed the car and reversed out from the driveway (extremely steep - about 35'), there would be a loud squealing sound for the first few seconds. Happens to most of our cars.

Now, since I've changed the wheels, and they said they cleaned the discs (been about 15,000km since) and painted the calipers black (black!??!?!), now they make a terrible squealing sound for much longer. Annoys the neighbours.

Anyone have a clue what this is?

It sounds like there is surface rust on the wheels. It happens when water dries on the rotors.

When the surface rust is grinded off (the squeeling) the squeeling will stop. Not much you can do about it really..

Yes surface rust on the brake discs. It wipes off almost immediately and then stop squealing.

I'd say it's the rust as well. When the car is parked after some rain or isn't used after a wash, the rust is very evident.

Yes, I am aware its teh surface rust...

What I meant to say was.. its way more evident after the wheel change. Might ahve something to do with what they sprayed onto the brakes? Any ideas?

Lets jsut say when I reverse down, it literraly wakes up the whole neighbourhood... :)
