water damaged evo x (engine bay/engine)

So there is a wrecker who is parting out an evo x, so far only sold was tail lights and hood vents. I asked how much for the entire car and he said 8k, the only damage he stated was water damage in the engine bay. I haven't had a look in person to see the damages but looking for outside opinions on this, would it be smart to purchase it and see if the engine can be salvaged, or replace the engine or just look away?
