Intermediate service

Postby Eman014 » Mon Sep 12, 2011 1:09 pm

Mitsubishi service centre called me today wanting me to come in for a service outside the capped price service. To my knowledge, all he wanted to do was change the oil and a few other things for $130. Seems a bit unnecessary really and ive already had my first capped price 12 month service and only driven around 10000km.

Is it worth it or should i just wait for my 2 year capped price service?
Cheers

Very persistent dealer :) Kudos to them for trying to make money.

It's really not worth doing the intermediate service unless your car is driven really hard (i.e. towing or long distance driving).

As your car has done 10,000km (assuming it isn't driven hard), it shouldn't really be a problem. I'd just leave it be until it's due for the normal servicing time (15,000km/12 months).

i think its worthwhile changing the oil and filter every 6 months regardless of use. I suppose it doesn't have to be done at a mitsubishi service centre. Just ask ur local mechanic to use genuine mitsubishi oil filter. I only get charged $70 all up for it by my local mechanic. I've done this to my 96' corolla and after 200,000kms the motor is still in great condition. No leaks, no problems but ofcourse sensible driving also played a part on that.

yeah, regular servicing will keep your engine healthy and will last alot longer

oil filters are less than $20 from the mitsu service centre & 5L of oil is fairly cheap $50 will get you some pretty good stuff and there's cheaper out there too

If you know what oil should look like, and then see it come out of the car after the recommended 15,000kms, you would never let it go that long without changing it. For such a small expense, you should be changing it at maximum every 7,500kms.

i get my oil changed every 5000km or every 6 months my lancer is now 2 years old and only done 16000km it is recommended if you do low km or a lot of shout trip that you should change your oil more often.

My car is about to hit 52,000.

I had the oil changed at, 5k, 10k, 15k, 22.5k, 30k, 37.5k, 45k, and about to be done next week at 52.5k. Car will be 2 in December :)

Depends on how long your planning on keeping the car for. With the 10year drivetrain warranty, your pretty much protected if something goes wrong with with the motor or gearbox. I'll be lucky to keep my car for 3 years. Unless your planning on keeping your car for over 10years or 160,000 kms. I feel your wasting your time and money by servicing it any more that what the Mitsubishi handbook states. Remember engine technology these days is far more superior now and oils are mostly semi to full synthetic. I have faith in the 15,000kms service intervals :)
