Dealer Oil Change and stock tyre pressure

hey guys do you know what oil the dealers use when servicing your car?
eg. synthetic blend?

and what is the stock tyre pressure that i have to pump my tyres to?
(recommended and max?)
for the 18inch VRX.

You'd have to ask the individual dealers - many I've had experience with just use the cheapest out of the recommended oils.

Your tyre pressure placard gives you the suggested pressures... it's located near the latch of your driver's door (on the car body, not the door). They're a good place to start - I like mine at the high end of what's recommended but I drive for economy rather than performance. You'll get a feel for what you like best.

You'll find tYou'll find they are probably using a 10W30 or 15W40 synthetic blend which they buy in bulk more than likely. If you request synthetic oil they will usually do that at extra cost or alternatively bring your own synthetic oil with you and they'll knock like $20 off the service cost usually.

As for tyre pressure that's as per above on the placard in your doorsill. I think it might only recommend something like 32PSI off the top of my head, however personally I would be putting in 36-40PSI, the ride will be a bit firmer, but the steering response, fuel economy and wear will be better I found.hey

All true above... Dealers would buy oil in 205s and put in minimum SAE recommended. Be careful about taking your own oil, as some have reported mechanics pocketing it and using workshop consumables (read=cheap-ass oil) in your vehicle... Would you know? (unless you used Royal Purple) I think not.

Tyre pressure... 36psi is good but wear increases in the centre of your tyre... Ride is firmer etc as per above comments... Lower than recommended pressure has opposite wear characteristics.

I've found the three dealers that I've taken my Lancers to for servicing use a cheap semi-synthetic Caltex oil. I personally change my oil every 7,500km/6 months with Castrol Edge Sport 5W 30 in my VRX and Magnatec in the wife's CH wagon. I write it down in my servicing manual too so it's noted and advise the dealership not to touch the oil when they service the car. Usually saves me around $50 on parts an labour (about the same as what the parts cost me to do it myself, but I know it's decent stuff going in).

And I also keep my tyre pressure at 38-40 psi.

my mate who is a mechanic told me there is a reason no real mechanic uses castrol.. something to do with sludge or something
say no to rice neons and led drls

My dealer used Mobil S 5W, but i supply my own penrite sin 5w now, and do so every 5000Kms...excessive some might say, but its my baby ;)
For every "Drive Safely" sign, shouldn't there be a "Resume Normal Driving" sign?

Sounds like a personal opinion. All oils will turn to sludge if you let it get hot enough or leave it long enough. All of the mechanics in my old car club recommended Castrol. I've never once had a problem with it. As for Mobil 1, I will never touch it again. Won 5L in a raffle a few years ago so gave it a a shot. After 10,000km it was almost grease and took a a fair flushing to get it all out.

Car was delivered with a Shell Helix sticker on it and at the first service it came back with a Castrol sticker on it.

them stickers mean squat.

Just bring your own oil. Best choice is Royal Purple since they can't cheat you by not filling it in. Stock oil is NOT purple.

We've had cases of us bringing our own oil and getting something else poured in.

...that's why I'll be doing my own oil change tmrw, before I take it in for it's 1 yr service. you just never know what they're gonna put in.

Is it better to use Mitsubishi oil, or is it just a rip off?

As for the tyre pressure... I have no idea about this stuff. I recently changed my tyres/rims so does this mean the tyre pressure changes too? :oops:
