Nut/washer Combo - where can I find it?

Postby exaltd » Sun Jan 03, 2010 1:48 am

Hi guys,

Sorry to be a pain again. I can't seem to find this particular item at Bunnings.

I need it to replace a missing one that fell off due to my shabby installatrion of the sway bar. It seems to have disconnected and fallen off.

The nut/washer combo I'm talking about is the one that holds the ends of the sway bar to the rest of the suspension :)

Anyone know where I can purchase one from? I'd rather it soon, hopefully today (Sunday) as it doesn't look like my temporary nut and seperate washer is holding well. Also, does Mitsu sell these?

Thanks for your help again guys. Much appreciated.

Look in the Yellow Pages for Fastenings/Bolts.. best to take the one you have and they can match it up for you.

Although beware, if it is a proprietary size for a particular fitment, then even some nut/bolt places may not stock it...

How does a bolt fall out of your car ?!?!

Buy Locktite and use that on important componentry, invest in a torque wrench and do any tightening to specified requirements !!

Hehehe,

How does a bolt fall off? It's not a bolt, It's just a nut/washer combo, it obviously wasn't tightened properly the first time I installed the UR sway bar (albeit tried to install it properly but couldn't fit it, so I forced it to fit). Today I ramped the car again, and discovered that that item was missing. Tried to buy it at Bunnings, but wasn't available. Now the other washer/nut combo is back on the sway bar (so I really cbs taking it off again), and I need a replacement for my temporary fix.

Also, it's so damn difficult lining the sway bar up straight, and now it is, all I need to complete it is that dang item. I really don't want to go through hours of re-aligning it. It's a pain.

If the job is too difficult or you dont have access to the parts you require then maybe just leave it to a professional... Having suspension components loosen when you need them to operate is not good. Additionally, if you were found to be negligent, then I doubt you would be covered by your insurer...

I would be careful.

It is important when replacing bolts/nuts, that they are the correct size and tensile strength.
Most bolts at bunnings are not High tensile. Be careful when selecting the bolts/nuts.

You should go visit a specialist Bolt shop.

LOL you can get some at repco if u have a sample and they have one that matches. maybe use a locknut so it can't come off again. though for it to "fall off" i'd probably be getting someone else to have a look and install it properly for you.

exaltd, you may need to remove the other side bolt to get a matching bolt, as Ellimist said you will need a sample to match up.

LOL..... got the item :P

Hit up Repco today, they didn't have it.

So went next door to the parts department of Eastside Mitsubishi :) Bingo! :P

$1.70 each or $3.35 inc. GST for 2. I bought 2 just in case :P

Problem solved :) Pity I have to wait until Wednesday for pick up. Missed the ordering for today. So they'll order it tomorrow, and it should arrive Wednesday morning.

EDIT: OMG.... I'm so stupid..... I just realised I should have enquired about the coolant too..... ah well, will do that when I pick up the nut/washer combo.

I hope you did not break the budget!
Bolts are so cheap, but so frustrating when you don't have the right one.
