Shop round
K&N can be had for under $100
Aeroflow also have one similar to K&N for Evo X that will fit
There is better ones round
However
It's better then a poke in the eye with a sharp stick I guess

K & N are really cheap on Ebay from a seller called Rolan Australia. I have recently ordered 1 x K&N for my Peugeot 207 Diesel and 2 x Washable cabin filters (1 x Evo X and 1 x Peugeot) They had a promo running at the time where I saved $50+ on top of the prices on there. I think this coupon has now ended. The only downside was they don't stock the items and there is a 14-day postage and handling time. The CJ lancer K & N air filter is $83 posted from there.

Had a Jerry can with fuel so I purposely ran the car empty to get rid of old fuel and also to see how many KMS etc.

Combined highway with maybe 25% City traffic my odo said 715kms at empty and my lowest average was 7.1L/100 but that's only going a few 100kmz a trip I'm sure if I did like 500 or more KMS it would go below 7L so it's actually very economical.

If you divide the what 58L tank? That's roughly 8L/100 combined to get the 715kms.

I have just bought the new K&N filter because it apparently lasts years? I will figure it out how to put it in, it actually came as one whole unit filter and the surround in 1 piece...

59 litre tank
Just because the K&N lasts years doesn't mean it's any good
It's the air flow rate you should be concerned about if your chasing performance

I have run K & N filters on a few cars for years and had zero issues. When fitted to the Evo X and placed on the dyno with my exhaust it gained 25-30kw over stock without a tune. All I noticed from the stock filter to the K&N, was the total filter area was smaller on the stock one compared to the K&N filter. I would guess more surface area and no restriction would be better. I guess the only issues that could be caused by fitting a K&N filter would be over oiling the filter, I don't go too crazy with the oil when I clean it.

I'm putting one in my Peugeot 207 Hdi but not for performance reasons obviously. Its due to the amount of km's the car does, the number of services I have to do and the interval of air filter changes. The filters are changed every 30k km's so in a few changes of stock filter its paid for itself.

Each to their own I guess.

In the sale it wasn't that much more cost than a stock air filter and the longer it lasts the better for me and everything I've read they are better for your engine.

It's weird how the filter just sits there in between the 2 pieces and just clips together I thought it would go down inside the box but all good

They are a deep socket and have a rubber grommet in them that help protect the top of plug and help grip it so it doesn't fall out so you can insert it with out the plug dropping off and damage to the electrode happen
No doubt you can get them for under $10 at Autobarn or Supercheap auto

Did a quick check and this should do the trick

Got one of those cheap T bar wrench and it wasn't long enough/strong enough looks like I'll need to get some kind of extension bar to even get down far enough to undo the spark plugs?? Those extension bars are like $10+ on their own without the 16mm piece as well....

Get a decent tool kit
I have a Crescent kit with from memory around 180 pieces
Comes with lifelong warranties
Break anything and get back in touch with the Australian distributor email them a photo of what you broke and no question asked they ship you a replacement
Even if you decide to abuse your tools and snap them they will replace it

There is nothing "bad" or "wrong" with running a KnN air filter , or for that matter an oil filter as well.
They are a brilliant product and will serve you and your Lancer beast well.

Yeah why not give your Lancer a little luxury here and there, and the best part is I'll never have to change it ever again so well worth its weight in Gold!
