180k Service Advice

Postby Lancer1993 » Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:07 pm

I've got a BIG service coming up in 2 weeks, 180k. I've been quoted $800, does this seem a bit high?

It's been done at the dealer because of the extended used car warranty. Don't argue the point.

Now one thing they won't need to is the coolant as it was done 12 months ago when they replaced the water pump.

I know they will do the brake fluid, oil, filters, not sure about the fuel filter.
I think the air filter is included but I've gone after market so I can probably skip that and do it myself.

Also on air filters I've got a TOG but can't find them on eBay anymore, its just under 3 years old and 35k kays.
I'll give it a check tomorrow but think it should be okay.

If it isn't what's the best to go for now and where to get them.

Will also check the cabin filter in the morning.

Are there anyone easy DIY parts to get so they are not needed for the 180k service?

$800 for a service is a bit steep

Have a go thru this lot

https://www.autoguru.com.au/

With a bit of luck you can find someone close who won't charge you an arm and a leg

These guys usually give you a voucher thru super cheap auto once the job is done also

I've said it before the car is under a use car warranty and MUST be serviced at this dealer, now the warranty might only have a few months left but why risk it?

In the future I will shop around.

Now I checked the air filter and it was a bit dirty, knocked out the dirt but it did its just and nothing appears to have gone through to the engine side. Wish I had a air gun but did my best to clean it. Will probably order a new one online this weekend.

The AC filter was clean, it was last changed 12 months ago so is okay for another year.

Does K&N offer any packages where you get both?

What should it be closer to and what have others been charged for the 180k?

Also they will not be doing the coolant, it was done 12 months ago with the new water pump.
They don't need to inspect the brakes, but the brake fluid will be flushed.
No need to check the tyres, including the spare, Bridgestone does that for me for free. I hate it when they paint that black crap on them!

I've now got a new air filter and cabin pollen filter on their way, so they can be crossed of the parts list. Ironically the AK air filter probably costs more than the genuine Mitsy one.

So that leaves Oil and filter, and a bunch of checks. Not sure about the timing chain this time around?

Don't worry about the timing chain,it should last the life of the engine.Maybe a set of plugs if they've done a100k. They shouldn't charge you more than 2 hrs labour all up

I figure not needing the coolant changed will be a major saving when it comes to labor. Also not checking tyres or the brake pad thickness and spare tyre, it all adds up to a lot of time saved.

They can supply the plugs if they are due.

With my CC I used to supply the oil for every service, haven't done that with the CJ.

Its booked in for the 10th of Sept. Hope to get the new filters next week and will update then.

I have my doubt the warranty is worth the paper it's written in to take it to the dealership.ik betting if you took them to court over it you would win.
This has been done in the past when Ford tried to take on an independent and lost.

Yeah but this is a warranty offered by the used car seller and not the manufacture, which is the key difference.
You buy a new car then Mitsubishi covers the warranty, not the dealership.
Yes it does have some pretty big exclusions like the sound system and a few others things i can't remember off hand.

That said it did pay for the new water pump, yes over 6 years it cost more for the warranty but its still something.

See this is why warranty company in the car industry keep going, from all the good money thrown at them
A new water pump with gasket can be bought for under $100 for the CJ
Even if you got the local mechanic to replace it, it's not that hard to remove the serpentine belt and and about 4 bolts to replace the pump and remove air bubbles from cooling system and put the belt back on.

Cool
Now all it needs is an ECU tune to get extra power and better fuel economy out of it

Considering that for real now but with border closures where/who, does AK Racing do them?

As you can see my previous TOG filter is pretty much the same as the AK.
