Engine System Service Required

Hello All.

about a month ago I was stopped at a set of lights and I got a warning light come up on the dash with the statement "Engine System Service Required".

I read the fault codes and returned "P0012". I then took it to a mechanic who removed the rocker cover and checked my timing chain, which I was told is completely fine (no stretching). I was then told that the error pertained to a faulty VVT. The mechanic changed this out for me however roughly 24hrs after I left the mechanic, I was stopped at the very same traffic light and the same warning has come up.

I relented and got my timing chain replaced, however once again, i was stopped in traffic and the light came back on. I'm freaking out a little about this as i've already spent quite a bit trying to fix it, but i'm more worried about driving it (i have no other option) and doing further damage.

Does anybody have some idea of what might be going on?

(P.S. stock ralliart 2013, about 94,000km)

Was the mechanic a Mitsubishi service centre?
After replacing the variable valve timing did you scan the code again when it came up? Any other codes being thrown?
Any aftermarket mods, I know you said stock but is there any exhuast, intake things you have added or previous owner added?

Cheers guys. Looks like maybe it was the stretched chain and that the learned values weren't set. its been a bit over a week now since i had the values reset and nothing so far. fingers crossed.
