Your vehicle air conditioning needs to be serviced every 2 years regardless of whether or not it is a Lamcer or ASX or whatever.
When you get it serviced make sure it is tested for leaks, and get the reciever dryer replaced.
The reciever dryer on the lancer is located behind the front bumper Infront of the radiator on the passenger side.
It is made of aluminium and about 5cm round and about 30cm long or so.
This needs to be done every two years.
Contrary to popular belief it is not serviced by your local mechanic when you car goes in for its usual logbook service schedule.
It will cost you extra on top of your logbook service to get it repaired.
Once it it repaired you will find that your fuel economy greatly improved. The cabin temp greatly reduced. Passenger comfort vastly improved. To say the least.

If you live in Brisbane area I recommend you talk to jack frost

I'll have to check to see if mine have every been done, usually they love adding things to boost their sales.

I guess the bar has to come off for this job?

Receiver/ drier is basically a water trap and a filter. The system needs to be degassed to replace it then regassed and leak tested

Any recommendations here on the Sunshine Coast?

Do Mitsy dealers do this work?

The stealership may do it , get ready to be bent over a barrel though, they earnt the reputation of stealership for a reason.
As for sunny coast, go hunting for review of work in Google maps as well as online reviews and waste book

The bumper bar does not need to come off to replace the receiver dryer
Get them to check the clutch for the compressor also it sometimes needs to be adjusted

As a general rule of thumb
To get the tradies to come to your door is extra
It's cheaper to Goto their workshop

However
The beauty of them coming to your home is they can work on your car and you can keep working on your other projects and forgrt about the car
You also get to tell them a time to meet you
If they are professional they will call you before they come , say an hour or so before to check you're all still good to roll

Yup
Sure does
It's breaks down after a while
This helps contribute to the thick black sludge in the AC lines
This sludge builds up and gets stuck in the compressor
Get enough of it and compressor will cease , when that happens your up for a new compressor.
In most compressor you can replace the bearing and the clutch
If the compressor needs to be done , you need to replace the entire assembly and that's big $$$ for a new ones

A decent AC place will add a UV fluid to the lines before regas
This is done so if there is a leak, you shine the UV torch around the hoses and it shows up real easy and makes diagnosis real simple.
