2009 Lancer Vehicle Speed Sensor

Postby jake.kusters » Tue Dec 11, 2018 7:19 pm

Howdy

As you've read I have a 2009 Lancer. Recently the check engine light has come on and cruise control has stopped working. The mechanics at my work (Army boys) plugged in their OBD tool and it displayed the P0500 fault along with a cruise control fault. I've attached the picture. The symptoms I have match the issues expected of a VSS although not sure the engine shutting off while driving is one of them.

I'd like to replace the VSS myself if possible but am having trouble finding it in the engine bay and also the correct part online. Any help would be appreciated.

shoot me a PM with your VIN number and I'll track down a part number for you from an EPC, and lancerdarryl's link is to the workshop manual on how to find the part and get it out etc.

Get one of these it will get you out of trouble reading codes and resetting error codes

It's probably the slowest thing on the planet to talk to the ECU with but it works and it is available locally.

There is much better units to be had from overseas for not much more but if your in a bind this will get you out of trouble

I've got a BT OBD2 to connect to my Android HU, I think the software can also display fault codes, but I've never used it for that. Don't think it can reset fault codes though, maybe there is an app I can get?

For Android there is a few different apps
Have a look thru Google Play store
iPhones some apps also but don't know if they will reset codes

I know of at least 3 in Google Play store that can and do read and clear codes
