Did it ever have a regular service after it was out of warranty?

When I took the top of my old CC it looked like new inside, despite having a blown head casket, luckily the oil and water had not mixed. But this is just bad.

Can we ask why it was in, what did the owner say was happening?

Yes,quite often. A lot of people only have their car serviced once a year when they need a roadworthy certificate

You can only get a year or 10k/15k service intervals with fully synthetic oil. A cheap mineral oil won't do. Sure, fully synthetic costs more (Penrite HPR 5 is a good balance of quality and price), but since the service interval is greater and is much better for the engine it's actually cheaper.

I'm guilty of 12 month service, but in my defence its what the dealer has said the CJ has to have. Yes I know it depends on a bunch of things and last service was early because I'd done the 15k with the road trip. Without looking it up I have no idea the oil the Mitsy dealer uses.

Maybe its their dirty little trick, annual service for low milage cars leading to built up of crap and at some point the engine needs major work or the owner just upgrades and the cycle continues? Unfortunately for me most days its short runs, maybe 10 minutes or less but I do try and do longer runs when I can.
