There is rust all over the bolt that holds the spare wheel down in the photo above
Soak the rusted bolt in white vinegar over night and watch the rust quite literally fall of it

The rust on the bolt was very light and not really worth worrying about, compared to potential problems with water getting into and staying in the boot... maybe time to trill some drain holes

Please don't drill drain holes in your boot

Yeah I was joking... that said my old coupe had removable metal plug in the bottom, didn't notice anything like that in the CJ.

Okay an UPDATE - so a week or so ago before the rain I checked the boot, all nice and dry.

Then on the weekend after the rain I again noticed wet/damp patches in the same areas, not quite as bad but still some water under the spare...

So today I took it back to where it was repaired later 2015 after my rear end crash. They agree there is a problem and will check it out Monday, all covered by the AAMI life time guarantee for repairs. Might be a leak through the left tail light or a seal.

Will update this thread next week when we know more.

And no I have not been carrying more turf in the boot, got a tow bar now and box trailer for that crap!

UPDATE - so the repairer took a look today, said water was coming in through the tail lights, the ones in the sides, not the boot lid. They took them out and resealed them. They said it should be okay now, but I'll keep a close eye on it when the weather is wet.

Not seen this before and I had taken the lights out of my old coupe a couple of times.

I do wonder about the ones in the boot lid though. Might take the cover off and check them later in the week for any signs of moisture.
