Help ! Clutch replacement.

Postby astringer » Wed Jul 22, 2015 11:06 am

So 70,000ks and the clutch has finally died. I've got an Evo x 08 gsr completly stock.
I've had a bit of a hunt around and grabbed a few quotes for replacement, the cheapest of which was around $2100. That was for an exedy single plate clutch. I understand the amount of effort and labour involved in replacing a clutch in an Evo but is that the sort of price I should be looking at or is it to much or etc.
also is it worth providing the workshop with a clutch ive bought myself instead of paying their shop price for a clutch? Is it Possible to source one cheaper then they can get it ?

Cheers !

its a full days labor easy. if you can get your own you may pay quite a bit less.

markups on parts is often quite a bit

On my Es. I can get the clutch done for 950 parts included. How much different is it to the evo? I'd imagine quite a bit for the price to be so much higher

Thanks Daniel. Yea I figured as much. would eBay be my best bet ? Or a local wholesaler ?

Because it's AWD there's a fair bit in the way before you get to the clutch.

Not sure what kind of specialist shops there are in QLD.
You might be better of going to one of those.
Perhaps someone from the QLD sector can assist.

your looking at around 500-800 for the part with the bottem end being something like OEM replacement.
check out the Evo X Forums.

The consensus is that the stock EvoX clutches will not last if you launch the vehicle or start to push a lot more power out of them.

be glad you don't own a SST.
Dodson Upgraded heavy duty clutch packs are around 6k. OEM is like 5ish for the SST.

I should also state that you can get clutches in the 2-3k area also.
Just depends on how much power you want to send through it.
