put in Amsoil 75-90w API GL-4 Manual Transmission Lube, about $28-$32 per bottle, get yourself 7 bottles, 3-3.5 to properly flush the old oil (fill drive and drain and refull) out and have a clean inside, then refill with about 3-3.5bottles,t, and get 2 new crush washers and 1 fill pump bottle....U will feel the difference in shifting, it will be silky smooth shifts,

The oil should only be filled to the point where it comes out the oil fill plug on the transmition. Believe the trans on the vrx is the same as the 4b11's so it holds 2.5l.

Im using Penrite Progear 75-85, it is a fully synthetic and is miles better than the stock mineral oil used in the gear box, not as clunky and shifts through the gears a lot easier when cold. Also fixed the 1st to reverse gear issue that happens every so often

I ended up ordering redline MT-85 GL-4, Hopefully its a big improvement over the standard Oil. I'm also having my injectors sent away and cleaned and giving the Throttle body a good clean.

Finally got off my arse and changed it. Big improvement over the original oil. No more cold shift issues and shifts a lot easier when warm

Curious is it fairly straightforward to do the oil change for the manual transmission?

Yeah i was grinding gears from 1st - 2nd and 2nd - 3rd and presumed it was my sync rows. But i changed my tranny oil tonight at work using the castrol vmx 75-85W and on the way home the gears were going in smoothlyy :)

Hi there,

I'm driving a Mitsubishi Lancer CJ 2010 with manual transmission. It's second and third gears were hard to shift, sometimes just couldn't shift to third so had to slow down and shift to second or even first sometimes.

I saw this post that simply changing the transmission oil has solved so many problems for some people. Therefore, I changed the transmission oil and used Castrol 75-85.

It solved my problem for around two weeks, I was very happy suddenly it started again!

Now second to third gear shift is smooth but fourth to third is very hard, most of the times I can't shift, so I have to slow down to shift to second.

Could you please share your experiences to help me?
I will be grateful to you!
Thanks to all!!
