Manual trans not 100% smoothe

Hey Club CJ'ers, long time no see

My 2010 CJ VRX has from new has had rather average gearbox feel.

I have driven a few different kinds of vehicles and not many with similar age behave like the manual 'box in my lancer does. Even the ES manual I had before had the same feel.

I'll attempt to explain....

Sometimes won't go into 1st gear from stationary (synchro misalignment) but engages upon clutch release then try again.

Driving - Changing into second feels a bit crunchy at times, rip it through and it has no choice (99% of the time I drive like grandad) but driving sedately it sometime baulks and feels "crunchy"

Going through the ratios, 3rd sometimes feels like 2nd. Fifth is also not smoothe, it resists.

Coming down through the gears 4th to 3rd is sometimes a gritty affairs.

Mentioned all of this to the mlitsi service people
and got _0.

Got 35K on the clock

Cheers

Anyone else having same prob

Twin

Mine became noticeably better after I changed the gearbox oil. I used a Nulon Semi Synth oil. Was still a bit notchy, but changes were definitely smoother....

Glad I have a auto!! No crunchy probs and can drive it like a manual just without a clutch. Although nothing would beat a proper manual as many have said in this forum. Good luck and hope your probs can be sorted out :)

going into reverse with mine is a bit rough unless i am really gentle.
every now and then while driving 'agressively' it wont go into third smoothly but maybe i just cant drive :P

other than that if i just cruise around i have no issues with the gearbox

Well I can't really drive a manual so your doing better than me lol, I want to learn soon as my next job I'm going for involves driving. Be interesting to see if other members are having the same troubles with the gearbox/clutch

same problems with 1st and reverse, and occasionally third, you're not alone, friend :)
88XXX kms on the clock, has been like this since day one.
it's just the mitsu gearbox unforunately, can be annoying and potentially dangerous when you're going for a sneaky 3-point manouevre and reverse refuses to slide in...

Is there anything we can do to improve it?

oh yeah forgot about first to second if im in a really slow mood.
ditto what ellis said, is there anything that can fix this?
would the short shifter kit help with this issue?

I'm not sure how you would fix it sorry. if you shift high from first (4500 rpm) and don't dump the clutch then you can negate most of the jerkiness. but it doesn't really bother me all that much anymore as it doesn't happen every time i shift up to second and it only tends to happen a lot when the gearbox is cold.

Maybe you guys need to change the transmission oil. Use the synthetic transmission oil as opposed to the mitsu one.

Either that or you may be able to tighten the tension on gearshift cable.

Wow,
All of this seems a bit strange to me, EVERY Lancer Reviewer since these CJ cars came out in late 2007 had nothing but VERY good things to say about this manual trans.

It has been good to me. Sometimes needs a second attempt & to reengage clutch to go into reverse but that's about it.
i had that same prob on my Eclipse GST turbo in the US too.

May be the way you guys are driving them.
