They are for if you get bogged the navigator has somewhere to stand and bounce the rear of the car to help with traction. There are handles on the rear mudguards to hang on to also.

Not really Justin, hopefully about two or three weeks the rear will be finished. That will give me the main body while a couple of jobs get finished on the doors.

Why does it have a fibre glass bonnet ? Is it for weight losd

Yes weight reduction. The previous car had fibreglass bonnet, boot, front guards, bootlid and door skins and lexan windows. It saved about 50 kg all up. Can’t really use them now, they are not considered “safe”. We also used alloy roll cages but they were made illegal so now we use 200kg steel cages.

Looking good, nothing like a good restoration. Saw an advert from the 70s and 80s on a facebook page I follow for the lancer, and had the same car as your avatar next to it, obviously appealing to the inner rally drivers of the time

This weekends effort.....buffed to bodyshell back to shiny steel and put a couple of coats of etch-prime. Next step is some filler work over the repairs.

Same specs as the works cars were.....1600cc Saturn with the C2 kit, close ratio 4 speed and 4.2:1 or 4.6:1 LSD.
There's been a long time spent collecting the right bits Dave. The hardest thing to find has been decent photos of the sump guards...they were a work of art, 3 sheets of 2mm aluminium folded to shape and riveted together.I have a fairly good idea what they looked like so we will get one pretty close.
