Low Fuel Warning light

Hi all,
One thing that has been bugging me for some time is wanting to know how much fuel is left in the tank, or how many km you have left before you run out of fuel when the low fuel warning light comes on.

I have looked through the thick manual and cannot find a thing.

Does anyone know?

Another thing, I reckon the Shell Vortex98 makes the car run awesome, and better fuel economy. Forget the E10 rubbish, as you get less mileage and performance is sluggish. My opinion anyway from experience.

Definitely steer clear of E10 (at least until it becomes mandatory) - it is rubbish stuff, increases fuel use and reduces km per tank. It might be a bit cheaper but you end up paying more cos you use so much more to go the same distance. 95RON fuel is fine although the 98RON fuels available contain detergent for injector cleaning so would be good to use from time to time.

I don't think that Mitsubishi would publish how many km you've got in the tank when the light comes on as the idea is to fuel it before that so muck and water towards the bottom of your tank doesn't clog filters and so on.

when the light comes on you can do about 50ish K's before walking...

I've always been of the opinion that once the light comes on there is roughly 30kms left in the tank.

50kms is probably more realistic but 30kms is a safer estimate

thanks all, will assume 30km, as I don't want to walk!!

Strange, because my other cars I have had will always give you a guide as to how many litres you have left (or km) from when the light turns on. It all depends on you drive etc too which I respect, but still would be good to know.

Thanks but don't want to push it too far as might suck up crap from the tank. You never know with some garages these days how often they clean their tanks and what exactly goes in them, like water etc.
BTW - Where in Northern Sydney are you?

Servo's these days have enough filters that you won't get any crap from them

Sound logic indeed - however, one must assume there is some 'crap' somewhere in the system; if there wasn't, why would cars have fuel filters?

We do alot of work for the service stations and tank farms and believe me, they are not all beautiful inside those tanks. Sludge, scale, rust and water condensation. Not sure about the filters at service stations though as I got a really bad batch of fuel from Ryde one day as it spluttered heaps and this was the only occasion I had to run it really low in the end. I then filled up with Vortex98 and wow! Never use any cheap "no name" petrol ever again. I have found even BP and Mobil not too crash hot and very dirty colour, when filling your tank you can see it.

I have only ever put in Shell V-Power mainly because everyone seems to queue up at the Caltex on a Tuesday night and the Shell is usually dead. I haven't really tried Vortex but I would think they're pretty much the same.

I wouldn't trust any no name brands either, generally only Shell and Caltex for me
