Also how much oil does the motor need? I heard between 4 and 5 liters.

You need just under 5 L.

Secondly, you will see that those 3letter acronyms of standards which are on the side of the oil bottles? Apparently, Royal Purple doesn't meet the standards required from inside your user manual. So much so that PYLee returned the bottle he bought. So now caveat emptor?

I get confused but it's either 4.3 or 4.7L - should be in the owners manual from memory. Then again i might be talking out of my bum.... :D

You need 4.3L for standard 4B11 engine. 4L for the sump and 300ml for the oil filter.

Royal Purple actually does meet (and in fact exceeds) the standards specified by the manual, I have checked - but PYLee was too worried about warranty.

I see a point in putting good Grade 5 fully synthetic oil into our cars, but I really don't think that we should go OTT and put RP 'Ribena' oil in. Our cars just don't work that hard to warrant putting in an overpriced product like that. You'd be far better off with Motul 8100 XCess or Liquimoly Leichtlauf High Tech in, both are Grade 5 or so and around $30+ cheaper.

My 2c worth :).

I've used Royal Purple Syncomax on my Turbo Charged L300 gearbox.

To give you some idea, on the stock oil I couldn't shift to 2nd gear until the box was hot and even when it would grind 2nd and 3rd. THere was 300,000kms on the box and it needed a rebuild.

I tried the Syncromax just to see if I could buy some time before rebuilding and the box. I found I had NO SHIFTING ISSUES and I drove for another 40,000kms before selling it (no rebuild required).

I don't know what the rest of their products are like but the Syncromax was awesome.

Cheers
John

I agree with exaltd. You don't need Ribena.

Just go for a bottle of Motul or Liquid Moly more than sufficient for our needs.

10W60 is really thick. It will cause slow start up, and reduced fuel economy because the engine is working harder to push the oil around.

There is no point using 10W60 for every day driving. You just don't need that kind of 'protection' and our engines don't seem to run well with damn thick oils (4B11 NA engine doesn't get up to those temps for optimal running of 60 weight oil).

Use a 10W40 or 5W40/50, that generally helps engine perform well and gives good protection for everyday driving. Most brand oils have these varieties.
