Okay I have a problem, water is getting into my boot (trunk for those in the USofA).
So a couple of months back I noticed the floor mate on the left side of the spare damp. So I too everything out to find moisture on that side and water under the spare wheel. At the service a week later they could not find anything wrong. So since then its been pretty dry around here, last week (before the rain) I rechecked and all was well to moisture I could see of feel. Then today I noticed a bit of damp again in the same spot, also on the very lowest edge of the side wall carpet, just the bit under the boot floor carpet. Again removed everything and some water pooling under the spare wheel.
Again I checked behind the side carpet on the left, nothing I could see, all nice and dry.
So I had a theory that the boot lid seal wasn't working, so taped some paper inside the boot and as a test sprayed water down the back glass at pressure (just garden hose not high pressure) but nothing, all dry. Also sprayed else where and nothing came in, only a few drips from the open boot lid. Last week I only opened the boot once or twice in the open when it was wet, but not actually raining, nothing should have got in.
I don't know what to think, maybe take it back to the smash repairers to get there opinion as they prepared it about 13 months ago after a minor crash. Maybe this week as it looks to be wet again I might leave the boot empty apart from the spare and basic tool kit to see if anything happens?
Oh and also, just out of curiosity I removed the heat shield then sits above the stock muffler, my CJ doesn't have a muffler there. Just wanted to see if there was anything that could be the cause. Its almost like water is getting into the left side and eventually running into the spare wheel well, but the question is where is it coming in?
Please any help of advice would be good as we're planning a road trip in a few months and the last thing we need is a boot full of wet luggage!
