What would you like to see in the new body Lancer?

Postby robert43 » Wed Feb 13, 2013 11:03 pm

Hi I dont know if this has been done before but what are some of the things you would like to see in the new Lancer?
As I own a MY11 ES I can only talk about a ES from what I have seen of new MY13 ES
1 better steering wheel not that cheap plastic maybe leather standard
2 folding / sliding in cup holders not that 1 s that are in the console
3 Console rather than the cup holder the part to be rectangle still with a lid
4 speed alert Lets face it Commodores have had since 1995
5 better sound material
6 lets have all LED lights all around not globes
7 folding mirrors
8 choice between 2 & 2.4 l motor
9 6 speed manaul gear box
10 light in glove box
11 Why not alloys wheels all round ES still could have 16" wheels nothing over the top in style
12 A arm rest on the console thats not rock hard
13 Seeing how ever car now adays have the reversing sensors as standard
these are a few ideas any 1 elese would like to comment?

Firstly, I'm sure we'll see most of what you've asked for in the new Lancer.
But I'm not sure that'll all of those will go into an ES trim.
If that happened, no one would be a higher trim.

In response to you:

1. Leather wrapped steerings are in the higher model. It's a point of differentiation.
2. & 3. I actually disagree, it's a good place for the cup holders in the center console.
4. I'm looking more for Mitsubishi to put in a heads up display like what's coming in the new Holdens.
5. Now sound insulation has never been Mitsubishi's strong point. With the Lancer DNA being from rallying, there's no way the Lancer will be well insulated.
Insulation also adds greatly to the weight which will take away the spirited drive.
6. LEDs are a possibility. To stay on the cutting edge, that's the way to go indeed.I'd like to make sure all cars have HIDs. A couple of LEDs to replace halogen bulbs in the cabin and signal lights is a cheap expense for us to do after market.
7. I'm sure this has to come in the new release. But I'm sure it'll initially be only in the upper models eventually trickling down into the ES. I suspect the following release will then finally see it in ALL models.
8. 2.4Ls are never as fuel efficient as a 2.0L. The response of the 2.0L is great following a tune. You may get more grunt out of a 2.4L but you need to ask yourself in 90% of driving, people hardly need that grunt.
9. The Lancer range has both the RA and Evo as sports marquees so the Lancer was meant more as a sporty family option. 6 gears indeed is ideal for most of us hoons but to the average family, they much rather a 5 gear MT.
10. Very possible addition.
11. 16" rims on a car the size of the Lancer? Unlikely to be the final set. The reason why the 16" steelies went onto the Lancer is because they figured most buyers would go aftermarket. Let alone you want it to be nothing OTT in styling, people will eventually change it. So alloys would be a waste.
12. Hard plastics have given way to softer material in this MY13 VRX. Padding though is an overkill for a sporty-esque car. You want softness? Buy European luxury.
13. Probably will be standard indeed with reverse cameras as standard.

I'm really after as much NEW technology as possible.

a. The heads up display would be a real plus.
b. No more CVT but a TC-SST in the auto versions of the NAs.
c. Too much to hope for but go for RWD? One can dream.
d. Better bolstering in seats and perhaps lumbar support?
e. Sleeker bodyshape?
f. Direct injection system?

Maybe with cup holder hand brake it was designed for LH drive?
I agree HUD would be nice
The really reason is why I meantioned the ES is because thats all I have driven ie new MY13 as well as MY09 MY10 & MY11 models .. Havent really driven any other ie LX etc

it's was designed for the US lancer and they didn't change it for the Australian lancer , so it's on the right side ... For the us lancer lol

Thats like the seatbelt warning light thing for the passenger - left over from US market. In fact, they could have just got rid of that all together. I hope they do in the new model. PITA.

It would be a major engineering job to move the handbrake to the opposite side--different lever, change the floor pan stamping. It makes for sense just to have one design=less production cost.As for the the passenger side seat belt light that is all tied in with SRS of the car.It isn't a left over from LHD cars :)
