It's wet! RIP THE HANDBRAKE!!!

Postby Eagle » Tue Apr 07, 2009 1:24 pm

I was in a private carpark with a few mates, one of which owned said carpark, and we were doing all of the good fun carpark driving stuff as you'd expect. I then decided to rip the handbrake (it was a bitumen surfaced carpark, so it's just like the roads) and, having previously owned an Echo (with terrible understeer), I flicked it pretty hard, with a good rip (that would have still given understeer in the echo). Swoosh, around I go, front end about 3 cm from the gutter and now facing in the opposite direction.

For all you stunt men and women out there, got any tips for doing said FWD manouvers in the CJ? For the record, I'm driving a CVT VRX 2.4 and the TCS was off :P

I live by that video lol.

Yea, I mixed the Scandinavian flick in with the handbrake. So not used to the amount of slide the ass put out. It used to take the flick and rip in the wet (not greasy) to get the echo to slide, but when it did, I powerslit at a 70 degree angle to the corner XD

Good times.

What I'm really after is, knowing how the CJ feels, do you have any advice for pulling such stunts? I know how to do them, just not how to do them in the CJ... yet :P

Ok i am a wharfie and i have driven them around a bit....
thats why i got a CJ in the first place, after working on the docks for the last 12 years it was the only car that i genuinely feel in love with at first site.
and then when i drove it, i was hooked.....& i have driven some cars in my time let me tell you... sure the CJ Evo X is the Ultimate!!! but for the dollars its not justified, thank god for the base models...lol.

You know its not only the looks!!! but how it handles in tight spots,
it has a great centre of gravity for pullin handbrake turns, the car is light as well so you don't need much speed.
the handbrake is not tight/sharp, it has a good feel.....
It suffers badly from understeer, but you get that with any FWD cars anyway.

On the whole its not as nimble as an Echo or a Mirage, but it goes good & can be a hell of a lot of fun to drive......

BRING ON THE SKID PAN DAY!!!
We are organising one soon in Sydney,, you and the guys in Brizzy will have to do the same.
