Basically Mitch, I sold the bloo car shortly after I got made redundant so as to pay out the loan and be completely debt-free - I had $3k left over and thought I'd pick up a five-grand cheapy to run around in for a while and after looking at 2009-ish Barinas, I stumbled on the Colt convertible, which was not far out of my budget.
I had a ball with the Colt, but it really was a hairdresser's car (it was actually previously owned by a hairdresser, seriously!) and being bald, fat, middle-aged and living on the Gold Coast, driving a convertible was one cliché too far, so it had to go...
I picked up the first Activ (ZII) very cheaply from the old Mitsubishi dealer in Gympie - it was a weekend special and I called the sales manager directly at 8:30 on monday morning and read out my credit card details - I was apparently the third one down his list of email enquiries, but being first on the phone and waving money at him got me the deal!
I've always wanted the RA-stylre front-end and I can easily put on a front splitter to get the look I want. I went through the exercise of costing a replacement front bar, arch liners, under tray, repainting, fitting etc. and it would be well over $1000 to do.
While I was looking around for all the parts, I found out about this latest one (ZIII) and got it almost at wholesale - I just priced ZII so it would cover the cost of buying the new one which meant it was cheap (in fact it was the cheapest 2011 Activ in the country, and the third-cheapest 2011 CJ of any kind in Qld.), and so it sold within a week.
(and I've got a fairly detailed spreadsheet keeping track of all my expenses all the way back to the bloo car...!)
It has been suggested by a few people that I should become a car salesman...!
