Trying to google CJ Lancer in the american version of google. The Lancers do come up,but they done use the term CJ?? why is that.
Is it only in Australia we go by a model name/number??

Americans will use it sometimes but try these ones instead:

9G Lancer
MY08-MY11 Lancer
DE/GT/GTS Lancer
USM Lancer
CY9A Lancer

US mainly go by MY or Gen cycle of the car and sometimes chassis code (mainly for the Evo's).

If you look on a forum such as evolutionm.net, they use the model name/year rather than "CJ"

e.g. Lancer (DE,ES,GTS) 2008+ Forums

No probs, i think that's the case with all there cars over there. They tend to use model year instead of the letter. So where did the CJ, CH letters originally came from?? Is it japan or Australia who determines the letter series??

Mitsubishi gives it the name..

It is still a CJ lancer in America as that is the chassis, they are just missing a few gene's so they call it something different.

Even in AU if you call it a CJ lancer people will look at you like your missing something, but if you was its an 08-10 lancer people will know what you are talking about.

It's known simply as the Lancer, or Lancer GTS in the US.

My understanding, and I could be wrong, as that CY is the Mitsu "platform code" which also includes vehicles other than the Lancer. Only Australia uses CJ, in America there's no equivalent series designation. Which seems weird to me, I am used to every car model having a two-letter series code regardless of the model year.

Also the Evo IX is a CY in Australia but the 2006 NA Lancer is a CH. Just so you know.
