Hoppers crossing Mitsu and my car (Nightmares)

Postby tuf-vrx » Sat Jul 12, 2014 6:24 pm

Hi all, long time since last post lol,

Here is my story haha

Once upon a time on a very sunny day, I go to start my car and it doesn't turn over. :? First thing that came to mind was the battery, so i replaced it :), It turned over but wouldn't start.. :x

Went to Mitsu in hoppers crossing and asked them what could be, they told me fuel pump and $750, Im not that gullable,so I went to Bursons, $149.99.
My bro replaced it for me as he's had experience with his Project car. :)

next we get the car started and some more nightmares, OIL Light on dash (genie lamp) checked the oil.... it's full and the red triangle? wouldn't have a F**** clue. so out comes the obd2 cable and no codes :?

then we hear a grinding noise, comes from where the pulleys are, noise is like metal grinding against plastic, (In my mind i had "oh no.$$$ timing chain" :( )

took it to mitsu, they said it was fucked just listening to it, they said new engine or engine rebuild, I was about to tell em to get F****d and left.

today we pulled the rocker cover off (is that what its called?) put some towels around the engine so oil doesnt squirt everywhere (checking if oil comes to the top) cranked it over and sure as hell the stuiff went everywhere, next we went and got some diesel, we poured the diesel on top of the cams and chain and all over the internals, let it sit for a bit and then hit it with the air gun to see what sludge would come off, to my surprise very little. put the rocker cover back on.

now for the ultimate engine cleaning

diesel breaks down oils really well

so we put 2 litres of diesel and 2 litres of oil in the car... yes into where the oil goes, we started id for exactly 5 minutes and drained < repeated 3 times. put new filter on and new oil in the car.

just went for a drive and guess what....
no stupid triangle, no oil lights no nothing on the dash (except the normal lights obviousl;y), car sound like new and very quiet (which means oil is lubing everything and more than it was before)

we checked the timing chain thoroughly and there was no play what so ever,

also thanks Denis, for replying to texts and thanx for all your help in trying to diagnose my car and find a solution.

Good thing you guys managed to sort it out.
Does it mean that your engine was clogged up with some dirty oil, which the diesel removed?

I don't think it was clogged may have just been the oil sensor on the bottom that was covered in gunk, my mate and my bro said that it was the cleanest engine they have seen when the cover was pulled off, so yeah, don't think it was the galleys clogged

Times are tough in the dealership industry, especially mitsubishi's.

Ripping people off is the only way they can make some moolah.

Better money in their pocket than yours is a pretty prevalant attitude.

Time wise replacing an engine is quicker then diagnosing an engine issue.
Pretty lame attitude from dealership to say "engine is fucked but we dont know why so engine replacement or rebuild"
If they were more worried about customer loyalty then turn around times, you wouldnt have this kind of "on the spot" diagnosing attitude.
Glad you figured it out yourself when your not even qualified motor mechanic. Makes you wonder how some of these dealership mechanics are even qualified in the first place
