Evo X at Queensland Raceway

Postby QUICK EVO » Sun Nov 29, 2009 8:25 am

Hi all

Just thought I'd share my videos of my session at Queensland Raceway. Car is a 2008 Evo X MR, completely stock.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D94gbBoOJ2M - Round One

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWHs6ji41hw - Round Two

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UpMDFP5C6I - Round Three

A couple of things to note:

- Yes, driving line was a little sloppy

- First time out in the Evo X so I was discovering its limits and potential. Driving could have been more aggressive (brake later and harder, faster corner entries in corners 1 and 2)

- Tyres very worn - you can hear the amount of tyre noise I was generating!

- Car is heavy (1650kg!) so a good exhaust + tune should help with the speed on the straights

It's an extremely fun car to drive. Highly predictable and controllable at the limit and even when grip is gone, easy to get it back in control. Active yaw control really makes a lot of difference by supplying oversteer when you need it.

Yeah I wasn't pushing it that hard. Looking back at the video, I realise I could have been going a lot faster. I'm a crappy driver, I picked up driving late in life and moreover, my tyres are shot. So yeah, in the hands of someone else it would have been much faster.

I had a lot of fun though!! :D

Hey Quick EVO...nice work. Thanks for sharing the video.

You are very consistent. With track days you are looking to improve yourself and understand the limits of yourself and your car. Well done in having a go.

I am no expert but have been on the track a few times. You should be able to analyse these videos yourself for next time. You can analyse speeds & G forces on turn 1 and consistency of the first brake into the flip/flop into the second back straight. You can check your lines against the lines of the commodore, mini and that fast & loose escort. Opportunities on the at both "flip/flops". One more tip when self analysing...look for the rubbered up (shiny) sections and avoid the dirty bits.

Well done using your car as it was designed..all the electronics doing is stuff. Fantastic fun!!!

PS did you get a g-force/speed v's time lap chart too? That is the better again for analysis.. the kit you had hooked up should be able to provide.
