Modern engines should be more flexible already, would go all out with a lead foot but use fuel wisely when you drive as if an egg is under the pedal. I read somewhere that MIVEC promised better economy when it was launched on the Evo 9. I reckon it also evaded the gas guzzler tax when the car landed in the US.

Yeah thing is Turbo's add-on a lot of fuel consumption, it's a given. But 10l/100km's for a Turbo engine pulling the horsepower you're doing is good also IMO as well.

Look at other contenders like the Civic Type R, 13.9L/100KMs on paper but I've heard it does more like around the 15-16 mark. Almost like a stock V8.

I say anything around 10 for an Evo or RA is good.

16L/100km for the puny little Civic Type R???? Ouch

As for Evo, yesterday's meet required me to leave city at 5:30pm, and I got to Norwest around 7:00pm using approx 18L/100km in traffic.

wow i looked at one of those civics. didn't realize they were that bad.

my 2.5 5cyl turbo volvo does 9.0 - 9.4 and thats not being grandma about it. I stopped watching the instant one because it was scaring me. dead set going up a hill is funny to watch until you realize its your fuel cash going straight out the exhaust.

9 - 10l - 100 seems about normal for modern turbo engines.

Did not the TopGear review say the Evo could drink up a full tank in only 48 miles (76.8KMs)??? Review between Evo & WRX, the lastest review on youtube. Can't be bothered to look it up...

That was one of the FQ models. The regular one is not that bad. Also, that would have been hammering it on the track more than regular driving.

We factor for 1l per km in my mates evo7 rally car, it is all relative to how the car is driven.

A few years back when Top gear was testing the GSX400R (or something like that, basically a fully worked evo 8 with an extreme amount of power and electronic drift control instead of stability control) Anyway I think it got like 1 mile per gallon while they were banging around the track.

haha, i get shocking fuel economy - usually have done 300km when the fuel light comes on (45l) so i pretty much do around 15l/100km on average (all city driving). the lowest i've got is 10.7 when doing a country run

You probably have another 150Kms on that, till your tank is really empty as we do have a 59L tank.
