Evo vs Ralliart

Postby zxssded » Mon Apr 14, 2014 11:28 am

Hi, so i could be moving out the the US of A in the next year or so.

Il miss my Lancer here in Australia but i need to find another car.

I mostly will use the car for a DD and doubt i will go tracking, il be in NYC and wont have much time for that.

Was looking at the Ralliart and EVO, but is the EVO really worth the extra 10k or more?

Il definitely do mods either way, but heard evo's fuel consumption is not the greatest... with that said, i would like to hear what the club has to say about this topic. :D

Honestly, if you can go the evo If I could, ralliarts are a very fine piece of automobile, however chances are that the initial mods that you may do will be to get an ra similar to the evo in specs,
And i do love my Recaros and the other goodies on my evo
Fuel consumption is going to suck either way I get ~350km per tank around town and ~450km on the high way, with a retune I would think that I could definitely get more power and fuel efficiency.
I had the same dilemma when I was looking at getting an evo or an RA,
For me it came down to a second hand EVO MR or a new RA,
Ultimately for me it came down to I always wanted an EVO, and was an RA an Evo?
No, and no matter how much I could do to (modify it) it it still would not be an Evo
That is my 2c Evo all the way

I own an Evo and I still voted RA, based entirely on the fact that you are moving to the US and said DD... As much as I love the Evo, if I was looking for a DD Only car I would have gone with the RA, Bigger fuel tank, better economy, the ability to lower the back seats (Needed more often then you think) bigger boot, better turning circle and a lot more comfortable while falling asleep in slow moving traffic.

I have a Mazda 3 as a DD for going to and from work (4 days out of 5 on average) and as much as I love the 1 day a week I dive to work, I can tell you now I would get sick of it after a while lol.

That all said, I see this question asked a lot (should I get Evo or RA) and I don't think we can really answer that question for you. It really depends on what you want, if you want to know weather the evo is worth the extra 10k (Pretty sure its more then that lol) then, hell yes, if not just for the SAWC alone, but is it a better car then the RA for DD, nope, Is it a better car in general? That is a debate I am not willing to start lol.

Go and test drive them both if you can, give them a good try, not just a trip around the block. If you think you can live with the harshness of the evo, that would be my vote, if you will be in the car a lot, the RA might be the way to go. ;) GL.

It isn't a question of whether the Evo is 'worth' the extra amount, it is whether it suits your lifestyle and you can live with the sacrifices.

Something to consider is that most Ralliarts in USA come with the Recaros to my knowledge (I think they were standard and you could take them out as a no cost option), so either way you aren't going to get height adjustment.

Your poll is wrong, it should be what evo you get GSR or MR
No one should get an RA over an Evo anyway if they can afford it.

What are the 'sacrifices' in terms from the evo to the RA?

What ive gotten so far is fuel economy.

Honestly i really like recaro seats so adjust-ability is really not an issue

Daily drive - NYC - much traffic - go the RA

When you leave NYC for good, pick up an Evo...

I wont be in manhatten itself, and also do plan to use it to drive around cause i have a friend who lives in boston. But general vibe i get is... EVO, but if you want to drive in the city, RA

How bad is the turning circle? Audi bad?

The lag also could be reduced with a turbine?

If i do get a RA im sure that getting the right mods could make it a 'STOCK' evo killer?

yeah, up to the highway speed limit a RA will beat a stock EVO with a good tune and a free flow cat.

actually a tuned RA does the same 1/4 mile times as an EVO, about 13.5 seconds @ 160/70 kph.

You may beat an Evo, until the first corner....

Instead of focusing on making one better than the other try looking at your needs. They are two completely different cars each designed to fill a particular market.
