what colour smoke is this [VIDEO]

Postby ninjured » Wed Aug 08, 2012 2:37 pm

put the go pro on the way to work this morning. looks like it lost a bit of quality going up to youtube but was wondering if this was black(fuel) or blue(oil) smoke. ive never seen blue smoke so not sure if blue smoke is whiter than black with blue :/ thoughts. happens everytime i get on it.

That last one looks more like black smoke to me. Which is normal.

You could do a compression check to make sure its not any oil getting past the pistons if you think its slightly blueish. Plus it'd be a good thing to check everynow and then anyway to preempt further engine damage

i think its normal if its been tuned i think its ok especially under load ive sat behind other evo x's that have been tuned and they blow black soot like that i don't think its any thing to worry about i know blows like that when i get in to it by all the soot over the rear boot lid.

To me that looks like the usual black over-fuelling smoke. Oil smoke really is blue, and much less dense looking that sooty smoke.

I also think that if you were blowing oil smoke in that quantity, you'd either be able to identify it from other symptoms or would have had a failure by now.

thanks guys, yeh the pixelation in the video doesnt look near as bad as the hi res video.

the cops definitely didnt like it just got stung $320 bucks this morning for "excess smoke" not even on full throttle. that was an argument and a half.

yeh its all changed, i expected an increase in smoke just not this much i guess. theres a lot more modified evo, wrx and skylines getting around than mine that dont do this much. at least it will be easy to work out which car is mine on the track.

Definitely black smoke. Running too rich? I had a Ralliart fly past me the other day blowing the same amount of smoke and , no offence, but it looked like s**t.
