There are a couple of problems with this idea.

First you need to pay delivery of the drum.
You will then need in the cheapest instance a decanting tool for A$7 (i.e. funnel and hose) to decant it.

And containers to decant it into.
An empty 5L oil can is as cheap as A$5 to buy.

205L will do 41 cars.
Secondly, it'd be tougher to find 40 other people than just 6.

I did a search of 205L drums and came across this site.

IF that guy is right, its A$7.50 a litre when bought in bulk (versus my A$8.52 per litre price if you do my cheapskate method).

So 5L is A$37.50 from this 205L drum.

Plus the A$5 empty oil can to decant it into takes it to A$42.50.
How much is delivery on the 205L drum? Say A$40.
That adds another dollar per person, reaching up to A$43.50 per person.

You're still a dollar more expensive than my cheapskate method.
PLUS the logistics of it all.

OK this one is a little different.

A bit of paperwork and online registration but make A$50.

Suncorp Bank is offering A$50 to each new account opener.

Simply open an everyday basics account,
for this you need your TFN and fill up their online thing,
print out their rego form to take to any AusPost branch.
Use internet banking and put A$2000 into the account, leave it there for about 6 weeks
Then withdraw the lot.
Close your account 2 mths from your opening date so you collect whatever pittance interest there was.

That's some modding funds right there.

Been awhile...

Our defacto engine oil is on sale finally!

Castrol Edge 5L 5W-30 @A$39.98 each
*Limit of 2 per customer

in SuperCheap Auto's catalogue (9 Jan -> 23 Jan)

What you want to do is go to Repco and show them the catalogue. They will beat it I think, so could well be cheaper. Autobarn will simply price match it.

Thanks for the heads up =]
Do you know how much Mitsubishi will take off on their regular service price if you supply your own oil?

Last time I went (last Satuday) They used Castrol Magnatec Professional 5w30 and the service was $160

Depends if you have capped price or not. I'm part of the generation without it, so they take off A$40.
