Merlin TUNING REPORT

Postby merlin » Sun Oct 07, 2018 4:10 pm

Tuning Report, Thursday October 4th:

Had an enjoyable tuning session with a chap from QLD in his 4B11-5MT Lancer. He has fitted his car with an AEM intake system, one I have never tuned before. As some of you will know I am generally not a fan of of aftermarket "cold air intakes" as they seldom do anything useful and generally screw up the airflow measurement, resulting in a generally lean WOT fueling error.

This AEM system seems to be the exception and I have to say worked very well. Combined with a set of headers and a hi-flow CAT the tuned engine response was very good, resulting in a lack of traction in 1st and 2nd gears and brilliant NA acceleration. Happy tuner, happy client.

AEM part number 21-778C

Would you say that the AEM CAI system is better than the stock air intake system on the 2015 4B11?

This particular car achieved higher engine load figures than the stock setup typically achieves, so possibly yes.
It did have a better exhaust system so that is a contributing factor too.
It certainly did not cause any negative effects, however I think the filter could be replaced with a larger unit.

It would attract unwanted attention from the plod though.
