Hey all.

Been getting a whining noise from the engine when i rev the car. or around 2.2 rpms is where it is at its loudest, it never used to make that sound kinda getting annoying, and im pretty sure its coming from inside the engine, its not very loud but you can hear the abnormality to it i don't think its the belts maybe the transmission ?
Its a manual car cj 2012 lancer activ.

Thanks guys.

Hard to decipher whining. Could it be an air leak, in which case it would be more noticeable under heavy acceleration.
Valve timing chain? Would think if it was transmission, sound would vary according to which gear you were using.
Alternator? Sound could vary with headlights on or off.

Does it do it at idle?
Pop the bonnet and have a listen

Is the noise coming through the speakers or from outside?

If it's speakers it could be you have a short on a speaker wire etc. that will change frequency with RPM.

If engine check the serpentine belts for frayed edges as that can cause a squeal. Or it could be your transmission oil is due for a change.

Has the car had its recall for the drive belt pulley done?Noises are hard to diagnose without being able to hear them.I would suggest you have a professional have a look/listen.

Impossible to diagnose from a description on a forum. Take it to a good mechanic

Could be a bearing in the alternator or one of the pulleys.
