Insurance

Postby bd-850 » Tue May 05, 2009 9:47 am

the lovely topic of insurance.

i just done 3 quotes for a 2008 MY09 VRX lancer for the Value of $29990, no options or anything. and the prices were (oh and i, under 25)
$17?? - GIO
$1076 - NRMA
$789 - AAMI

there is just a little diffrance between the three,

So how much do you pay and who is it through

$89/month with a massive excess adjustment (I'm going to cry if I ever have an at fault crash) through AAMI - with a normal excess it was around $200/month. 5 years driving experience and have made no claims. The suburb I live in doesn't have the greatest reputation, even though I'm parked in a secure car park this doesn't make a great deal of difference. Hopefully when I hit 25 in Sept it will drop a bit.

Since the turn of the new year, AAMI have changed their policy restrictions. B4 2009, they had turbo charged cars, and sports cars at a much higher premium - My Ralliart, 29 year old driver, Rating 1, $1256.....and WRX was roughly same price, but in 2009 they changed to Rating system only and got rid of the sports performance listings in their system. It now costs $656 for my RA full comprehensive, no changes to policy whatsoever!! As far as I know they are the only insurance company to do this so far, and as soon as everyone changes over to them, maybe other companies will wake up to themselves!!!!

$656 with a normal excess? God I want to live in Townsville. Sydney drivers get shafted so badly.

Yeah, just went on the AAMI website to get a quote - The very same info, living in Parramatta NSW (only NSW postcode I could remember) and the quote was $3576.......WTF???????? I really don't wanna live in or around any main cities any more!!!!!!

Ridiculous hey!

Melbourne get a slightly better deal, though the equiv to NRMA down there actually run a profitable business so they can offer better pricing on insurance.

Sydney is a joke when it comes to pricing on everything, I swear they employ a wanker tax for 90% of the population in Sydney :(

My postcode is not toast of the town, but with no drivers under 25 and non modified VRX Sportback, I got insurance for $1,088 through eCarInsurance.

Changing to Bingle soon to save another $350.

I will have a look at AAMI and see what it spits out. Bingle is just an internet only off-shoot of AAMI, so they might be about the same.

Bingle you are not allowed to modify the car at all. Got a great price from them, however the fact that your insurance is voided if you change the car in anyway, shape or form is a killer.

No changes planned here. So that will be okay for me.

AAMI is higher than my current price, so that's okay....

For an MY09 Lancer VRX we're paying $745 through CGU - although, that's for a no drivers under 25 policy!

Having said that, from memory they were very competitive regardless and you can do a quick on-line quote.
I think their policy is also a bit more comprehensive than AAMI but don't quote me on that.

Yeah when I turn 25 it will be getting a no driver under 25 policy on it...just need to wait 4 months. Hopefully it makes it a bit cheaper, or the same price with a much lower excess.

I'm under 25 and I'm with RACV,

I'm paying $1200 with a normal excess. They also include replacement guarantee for the first 2 years.
