Can somebody explain the huge difference now between 91 unleaded and premium 98?? Tonight I filled up with 98 for $1.60 yet 91 with ethanol was $1.30. I think that's beyond the joke as only around 5 years ago there was only around a 10c difference between 91 and 98 fuel. Im really not keen on using regular unleaded but may have to revert to it with the cost of premium getting out of control.

Kinda sorta. NSW Govt mandated that all ULP91 fuel have ethanol blend, hence it is now E91, so pure ULP91 was phased out.
Before all this happened you only had ULP91 and ULP98 at most bowsers.
Being that ULP91 was force phased out to E91 and "new product" was created ULP95 - because there are some cars unable to run any Ethanol blend and it would be political suicide to force these people into the exxy ULP98 (however as we saw at the NSW election, Labor were screwed regardless).
Now on to price cycles. All fuel types do not follow the same price cycle. LPG, Diesel, ULP98, ULP95 and E91 all have different price cycles.
So tonight you probably caught the ULP98 at a high point in the cycle where the E91 was probably at the low point of the price cycle which makes the price difference look phenomnal.
I guess to compare like for like you have to compare the E91 price at the bottom of it's cycle to the ULP98 at the bottom of it's cycle, which both probably fall on different days.

We don't have ethanol blend in Perth, at least not anywhere I've been.
That site says wednesday is the cheap day in Perth, and I'd have to kind of agree.
'Kind of' because I find mon/tues/wed to all be about the same, then it jumps up and thurs/fri/sat are all about the same too (don't know about sunday).
I can see a petrol station sign from inside at work and have gotten pretty used to the cycle. I always try to fill up on the first 3 days of the week.
I also drive past heaps of stations so I just pick the best one and come back later
(theres 4 caltex and 1 shell within 5 minutes of my house).
I also laugh because everybody seems to go to the same one just because of where it is. You could spend 20 minutes sitting there waiting or drive 2 minutes down the road and pull up right next to a bowser... Or if you don't like their price, keep going another minute and theres another one. Put some effort in you bloody sheep!
