DRL fuse and Relay

Postby JaymeF12 » Thu Mar 30, 2023 12:38 am

I have DRLs installed (VLAND) and want to have it so when the headlights are on, the DRL strip is off. I've put the fuse in the DRL fuse but realised I don't have the relay. none of the other relays fit (I tried my fog light relay) and was wondering why, people say the relay from jaycar (SY4070) fits but it seems the same size as the rest of them.

Try a wreckers to get one out of a CF. Also have you made sure there is wiring going to the plug in the fuse box? Not all cars have it.

There are no wrecking CF lancers here, not on market place, or gumtree because I'd love to take the side mirrors while im at it. What do you mean the wiring going into the fuse box? would it be on the large plug at the top of the fuse box?

Where the relay plugs into the fuse box.

You may need to try OEM for a relay

I’ve just had a look at a customers car and it has no wiring in the DRL relay plug hole. If you look carefully through the connector holes you should be able to see the metal connectors if they are there. If they aren’t you’ll need to make a harness up to suit.

I see, there are not metal connectors. How would i make up the harness? I've seen people use fog lights as DRL and just connect a wire from the DRL relay plug to the fog light relay and it worked, would i be able to do that with these DRL? because i've tried connecting it to the fog light fuse and tried to have to so i'd need to turn on the fog lights for the DRL to work but they stayed on even with the fog light switch off

Mate to be straight to the point, you obviously have no idea what you are dealing with.It is a complicated system to set up correctly and you would be best served going to an auto electrician.

A few things to consider when the running lights are part of the headlights they must

1 extinguish when the indicator is in use
2 dim when the headlight is turned on
3 only operate when the engine is running or the ignition is on

Modern car car electronics are very fragile and don’t like to be played with.We recently had a Corolla in for repair. It came in on a tow truck, and we were told it wouldn’t start.A week and $5000 later we got it to go.The cause? the owner tried to wire in a LED light bar and relay. That’s why you don’t touch shit you know nothing about.

Yeah okay i see, that would be such a hassle to fix if something goes wrong. Just thought i'd ask because people manage to enable DRL such as here:

and here:

They are different spec cars to what we have in Australia. Some countries get things that others don’t.For example vehicles in Russia aren’t required to have ABS,stability control or more than one air bag but they have heated seats.Canadian cars have the drl modules fitted and US cars don’t.
